Re: Nevil Shute

I read 'On the Beach' when I was about eleven years old-it was all about a Nuclear war -and it made a lasting impression on me.It was made into a memorable film if I remember correctly.

Re: An Introduction ...

Hi Jim and welcome to the addictive world of the Seagull motor-you have one now-just wait! For any relevant advice you would need to post the Engine number
(on the crankcase under the dirt) and perhaps a few photos. There are several different model types. :)

Re: Curlew motor

I acquired a kingfisher (very similar to the Curlew) about a couple of years ago-despite experience with centurys and 40s I was unsure as to how to approach the motor. They ARE different but the Seagull DNA is very much present. The members here were a great source of info and help and I ended up with...

Re: Loss of power in Century

I know it sounds hopelessly obvious but did you open the vent in the filler cap before the boat test as everything seemed fine in the Barrel outing? I still make this mistake from time to time!I have restored three of these motors thus far and still marvel how gunk magically appears from nowhere and...

Re: Marston- To Break or not To Break

Based on your track record in discovering, unearthing or otherwise obtaining gems of motors you'll probably trip over OA314 in perfect order on the way to collect an SD classic (as new) in its wooden crate- hang on and wait a few days! Lovely Motor! :D

Re: British seagull at the cinéma!

Is the Motor in the film the correct article for the time(1955)? It has the steel Fuel tank-should it not be the Brass type? :?: Or am I wrong?

Re: what to do with old fuel

I usually heavily dilute it with the fresh item and use away-never had a problem with this approach.Weddigen :)

Re: Proper water jacket cleaning

Nice one Stelious! great idea-probably will prolong the life of the Block.Decent blocks are becoming harder to find and since no one seems to be making any more of them it makes sense to mind the one you have. Are there any disadvantages to this procedure (aside from the risk of detachment)?

Re: Kingfisher QB gearbox issues

thanks Rick UK & Charles UK-the problem was indeed the linkage-I took the box off and reconfigured the linkage travel again-and things now are in order-12 o clock is forward,3 o clock is neutral and reverse is about 6 o clock-that appears to make sense. Thanks again gentlemen-Weddigen

Kingfisher QB gearbox issues

Took my newly refurbed kingfisher out for its inaugural flight yesterday-great starter, very quiet and powerful with just one problem-I can't find forward gear. When the clutch lever is at 12 o clock I have neutral,at 3 o clock I have reverse and at the last position 6 o clock I am in neutral again.It...

Re: New Seagull owner

I'd bet that the gearbox is ok on this motor-the fact that ANY oil was present is a good sign-the Seagull box can take serious abuse and still polish up well-I've opened gearboxes dry as a bone and rusted solid with no smell of oil and with tlc all worked out.Serious heat alternating with immersion ...

reverse gear on a kingfisher

Hi all-I hope to be taking my newly restored QB kingfisher for a test on the lake -Its just occurred to me that I'm unsure where Reverse gear is -are there three settings on the clutch lever (I only can find two)? Sounds a silly enquiry but I'd like to know before I go out on the water! Thanks --Wedd...

Re: Just acquired-Kingfisher QB-What to do?

Hi Gents-I decided to work around the stickers-I was going to try and ease them off with a hairdryer or whatever but thought better of it-If I messed it up I doubt that they'd be available anywhere.I'll try to upload a vid in the future but for now I'm going to keep away from it and let the paint cu...

Re: Just acquired-Kingfisher QB-What to do?

Hi All-several days of work over the Bank holiday w/end have seen much progress-the gearbox is settled up and engaging smoothly, carb stripped and cleaned, fuel pump checked, exhaust etc ok.The only part to be replaced is the fuel connector the fits in to the Amal 420 - it has a multiplicity of tiny sp...
