Seagull 2
Hi Just acquired what I think is one the last seagull featherweight’s made. TSEF286A2. No breather hole in exhaust, twist grip throttle, and modern locking thumbscrews. All 100% original. Appears to have had very little use - runs very sweetly and the quietest 40 I have ever heard running. Great pie...

Re: Villiers Carb
Yep, I think I will leave it be. It just is so willing to start and run. Best featherweight I have ever had!

Re: Villiers Carb
Many thanks for that - very helpful. The featherweight starts a treat - literally first pull from cold. I have noticed that when you turn the fuel off, it strokes faster on the last 30 seconds of fuel. So maybe it is 4 stroking when the fuel is on, and as the fuel starts to run out, the mixture weak...

Villiers Carb
Hi, I have returned to a Seagull after years of disloyalty with a couple of small Suzuki's. I have a great 40 featherweight which had a dead ignition, but swapped it out for a Wipac mk4 with recoil and it's all good now. Still on a 10:1 carb. I have noticed that the needle screw is not level with th...

Yamaha 5HP Aircooled Standard Shaft
In superb condition - probably the quietest most refined and best engineered air cooled small outboard ever made. No faults - it is perfect and has been really well looked after and maintained.

Re: Seagull Boomerang effect
Yep - a seagull smokes like a cigar too...
My two favourite seagulls have gotta be 40plus with clutch, and Curlew (the latter I covet - yet to find a working one having let a good one go years ago, not realising just how nice it was!)

Seagull Boomerang effect
I thought I'd kicked the habit of these engines for good - I retained one nice featherweight for nostalgia. I dabbled around other old outboards, which of course were more sophisticated, much quieter, more powerful, and of course, less messy. Not wanting to buy a new hyper expensive 4 stroke, I had ...

Nice one on ebay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/British-seagu ... 2518.l4276
But look the poor thing being over revved in neutral - ouch for the 170 bearings...

Re: Seagull Curlew
Sounds good news - I will contact John when he's back. Yes, will try and get this right as it is very rare and a nice one to have. This one is quite late - locking thumbscrews and twist grip throttle, silver paint and "Seagull 4" blue logo on it.

No points as it is a sealed unit I am afraidphil wrote:Points likely need cleaning. Sorry don't know the flywheel routine. Tried google yet? Sometimes surprising what you can find there.

Re: Seagull Curlew
Managed to get the flywheel off quite easily using wd40 and the conventional method used for older seagulls. Came off first tap on flywheel nut - so nothing damaged! Hard to see whats wrong as you say - HT lead has one slight nick out of it, but only a tiny bit on the rubber casing. I really need to...

Seagull Curlew
Hi, just recently acquired a late seagull curlew. It won't start at all - I have tried all the obvious things - new spark plug, checked gap, fresh fuel mix, cleaned carb etc. Unusually the spark is almost non-existent - undetectable - just a tiny pulse if you put your finger there rather than any ou...

Re: Crankcase seal - 40 Plus
May all come down to price - I would think the cost of the new gasket, new rings and any other parts might exceed the cost of buying replacement power head/crank/crank case complete. It does seem as is buying a complete engine from ebay is actually the cheapest way of sourcing parts, as the individu...

Re: Crankcase seal - 40 Plus
hi dartmoor when you were "testing" your motor were you running it in a bin. if yes (and maybe you had the prop still attached which won't do it many favours) the winey noises could be coming from the gearbox? just have a quick look to see if its got any oil in there? a "dry" ge...
