Re: REMOTES ON A MODEL 90?
Morse Teleflex steering cable.
That will push and pull, bends reasonably well.

Re: Seagull deep six
I hit one of those huge jellyfish once.
Knocked the motor sideways so one clamp came clear of the transom.
I then screwed a piece of bronze keel band onto the motor mount above the round cup washers to stop any repetition.
Works well.

Re: Boat handling without neutral or reverse
It is good seamanship to row out. You have total control of the boat in a hazardous situation.

Re: Seagull model 55 kill switch
The history of my motor is that it was apparently purchased and only used on a local Wiltshire river with an inflatable for fishing. In the 1990's the owner's health deteriorated and the motor was carefully stored in a shed where it remained until his death in 2014. I bought it off his nephew and he...

Re: Seagull model 55 kill switch
Well, despite the rain, in the interest of scholarly research into Seagulls, I have been out into my darkened shed with a torch and examined the underside of my 1983ish electronic 45/55. Yes there are two machined holes about 170 degrees apart about the main shaft, One has the kill wire, the other h...

Re: Seagull model 55 kill switch
My 45/55 has that wire, and yes it does stop the engine if you earth it.
Quite why Seagull never fitted an actual stop button is the question.
Perhaps they did not have any available, or being pushed for price by the Japanese engines, they needed to pare down costs.

Re: New Toy
. You missed the point about 140 oil Mike, that is a get you home trick when buying a trailer that has been standing a long time. Fill the cap with oil and stick it on, gets you home, so you can change the bearings at your leisure. H-A Didn't know that, but I would prefer to use a grease gun. Probl...

Re: New Toy
Please do not mess about with the bearings and ignore all advice above. You need new bearings for both sides. If you never put them in the water, they should last years. If you do submerge them, then 3-4 years life at most. The wheels you have are standard 8 inch boat wheels, the hubs are also stand...

Well, someone has bid £25....allegedly.
What amazes me is the old junk that most would chuck out, arrives on ebay with deluded sellers convinced that it is worth a fortune

Re: Running problems after rebuild
Try without the petrol cap. Could be the cap valve, sounds like a problem I once had.

Re: End of production
Such a pity that such a simple but ultimately reliable engine could not survive. Those of you who know Milford Haven may know Cresswell Creek. a narrow winding, drying but very beautiful place. I was attending Seafair Rally last year. As we came to leave Cresswell on an already falling tide, my Mari...

Re: It is Back. Answer to Ignition Woes
Back in the 1950's just using ordinary engine oil in motor cycle 2 strokes, we had lots of trouble with the plugs oiling up and fouling (16:1 mix) One reputed dodge was to cut the HT wire, wrap the bare ends around a shirt button so as to leave a small air gap and tape the whole thing up. Never trie...

R clip
I need advice.
A sailing club bore told me that instead of using a split pin to keep the propeller on, it is possible to use a R clip.
Has any one any knowledge of such use?
