Re: Seagull deep six
I like those pieces and will try to source one. Like the indent to prevent the round contact thing from walking off the top of the transom. I've used the rubber pad on various boats and motors for years. Never had a motor move before. But, heavier motors, much more robust clamps.

Seagull deep six
Yesterday was the first time I ever lost an outboard off the back of a sailboa4, and the first time I ever happened to have a safely cable attached. The prior owner had attached a Marine quality steel cable with loops seized on each end. It was a random act that I snapped it to a ring that happened ...

It is well
Raised the motor a few inches and changed the angle one notch. Also calmer water. Guess a 3 hp single won't push a 17 footer to hull speed, but it does well enough.

Re: Side play in mount?
Thanks to you both. This aspect of how the mount width adjusts wasn't readily apparent to me. Worked perfectly.

Side play in mount?
Is the part of the mount that stays attached to the boat bent wider, allowing sideplay? I can see the cross pin thing is bent. If so do I leave it, add spacers or attemp to bend it narrower
Im debating the later, using a mallet, or preferably a vice.- Wed Jul 15, 2015 10:57 pm

Model 55 gearbox
Had an excellent first day out with my newfound 55. It recreated the vibe (and vibration) that I enjoyed during 25 years with a model 170. I changed the gearbox oil (was milky tan) with fresh 90 weight according to instructions before use. After use I had the motor stored horizontally in the the bac...

Re: Seagull model 55 kill switch
Thanks for your in depth insight. I just acquired the motor and gave it the shakeout run. It ran remarkably. I didn't touch it mechanically, but it makes sense that it had some ignition upgrade or service because of how remarkably it will low idle compared to other seagulls I've owned. The wire has ...

Re: Seagull model 55 kill switch
Thanks Mike.there are two factory holes on the undeside of the ignition area and one has the earthing wire dangling. Guess it's your choice of fitting an aftermarket kill switch.

Seagull model 55 kill switch
My newly acquired 55 has a 3 inch wire with a plastic connector dangling externally from the mag area. looks factory? The prior owner has some raw wire wrapped around the mounting bracket that he shorts into the connector to kill the motor. I found one thread mentioning rotating the tiller handle do...
