Re: Silver Century plus not revving up

There's two...in the picture one is still on the banjo bolt. Both black washers on the banjo bolt are fibre, measure .034" and .036" thick and are of the proper id and od. Additionally, there's a red fibre washer under the locknut on the bottom of the float chamber that measures .032"...

Re: Silver Century plus not revving up

Honest fellows...I really am a fairly competent wrench and archaic designs have generally been my forte. I used to mess with gulls a great deal and this is the first time one has resisted my soothing efforts. To reiterate...clearly it must be too much flow, pointing to the needle/float. That being s...

Re: Vessel befitting a Seagull at last.

Doing a light glass overlay sounds like a good idea, and may even be one, however a few considerations are in order for a proper and lasting job using a quality epoxy like West System. --All the old paint will need be removed and the hull must be dry...otherwise minimal saturation will be the result...

Re: Forty Plus longshaft parts

Yes...waiting for the weekend to finish before contacting. Back a dozen years or so ago when I had a whole flock of seagulls, the "British Seagull Shop" (if memory serves correctly they had been located in British Columbia) was sold to a fellow named Charles near Seattle, WA...only a few h...

Re: Forty Plus longshaft parts

Jacob,
Thanks much. Thought I'd poke around a bit for a dead donor gull or parts a bit over here first. Will let you know.
Thanks

Re: Silver Century plus not revving up

Martin,
That would be brilliant!
All I know is it's looong. Would assume it's six inches longer than a standard but my assumptions regularly get me in trouble.

Forty Plus longshaft parts

Just acquired a 1967 forty plus longshaft (FPL 719G7) for my boy scout's sloop...was actually in a museum display so in great shape (and dirt cheap). Unfortunately along the way someone removed the gearbox and bracket to facilitate shipping and then lost the driveshaft and impeller (and a few other ...

Re: Silver Century plus not revving up

Thanks for the input folks...just got in and checked messages. I'm reasonably proficient on this stuff but this one has had me buggered. Charles, a visit to the chapel couldn't hurt at this point. I'll yank it and check those measurements...that being said the threads, etc on this Amal are in excell...

Re: Silver Century plus not revving up

Well...I managed to catch my allotted three salmon yesterday but the seagull behaved as before. Jon- We check jets on old aerocraft carbs this way...but carefully and not with the "sharp" end. That being said I only put it in the tall end of the jet, not the inner part...and It was acting ...

Re: Silver Century plus not revving up

Ran the same in tank and on river (ok but not great) without prop engaged...chugged when under a load and only to +/- 1800rpm at full throttle. I shimmed the float about an eighth inch last night. Started on first pull cold in the tank, ran up ok in neutral. Will test under load fishing today. Keith...

Re: Silver Century plus not revving up

Hmmm...very interesting. Curiosity forced my hand. Worried the little devil out, and it is indeed a 45 jet. The carb is actually in nice shape. Just cant figure why it's having this issue with clean non-ethanol fuel and good oil mixed at 10:1. Makes no sense, it should be running fine in factory con...

Re: Silver Century plus not revving up

I use indexed bits to confirm jet sizes in 1940's vintage aeroplane carbs since folks would occasionally drill them out slightly...makes the stamped number less than useful. The jets are numbered as gull jets are. #40 bit = 0.098" = 2.49mm #45 bit = 0.082" = 2.08mm #50 bit = 0.070" = ...

Re: Silver Century plus not revving up

Charles, Off-topic a bit, but...there are five separate salmon species that return to this river system (in Washington state, the Snohomish/Skykomish system) at different times of the year, plus both a summer and winter run of steelhead trout (7 to 16 lbs generally on steelhead). The fishing is a pa...
