Re: How to Stop a Seagull
Tried this by rotating the tiller bar up to slacken the cable but engine still ran. What about repositioning the throttle lever assembly on the bar? I noticed there are 2 screws on the assembly that if loosened would allow it to slide back and forth. Being in a different position on the bar would ch...

How to Stop a Seagull
My newly acquired 40 Plus w/clutch EFPC 398AA0 starts and runs fine but the only way I can stop it is to choke it till it floods and shuts down. Hopefully this isn't SOP. Is there a better way?

EFPC Starts OK but Won't Stop
Picked up a nice 40 Plus with clutch and recoil start today. Engine # is EFPC 398AA0. Starts fine, runs smooth and idles down nicely but won't stop. Is there a stop button hidden somewhere or does the throttle cable just need adjusting? There is a large screw head in the middle of the throttle lever...

New (to me) 40+
Hello All, this weekend I purchased a 40 + engine #FP 106C0 in running condition for US$100. It's a perfect fit for the transom on my 12' SF Bay Pelican sailboat as I can leave the outboard bracket exactly where it is. The drive shaft tube is corroded, the tank needs a new filler cap and the spark p...

Re: Shaft length - 40 Plus
Hi Bill On the main site, choose 'Range of British Seagull Models', then select 'Forty/Centuries'. You'll see the sheet I copied immediately, click it to enlarge. Or, right-click the image in the post and choose 'save image as' then open it with Windows picture viewer. I expect this will be the def...

Re: Shaft length - 40 Plus
That General Characteristics comparison sheet is nice but I haven't been able to find the original on the main site. The print in the copy you sent is too small and fuzzy for me to read. Where should I be looking? Thanks!

Re: Shaft length - 40 Plus
Thanks for your input but it just dawned on me that instead of anguishing over shaft length I can just unbolt the transom bracket and remount it a few inches lower to get the desired shaft length. Problem solved!

Re: Not really the right seagull?
I think you have the answer in the Silver Century Plus brochure you posted. It says in part that the motor is suitable for sea-going displacement hull craft 16-20 feet. NOT suitable for light dinghies. You have the latter. Yes, I would see if your FIL will swap your Silver Century for that 40 Plus y...

Shaft length - 40 Plus
OK, I'll try my question from a different angle - what's the driveshaft length for a so-called "standard" shaft 40 Plus? TIA,

Shaft Lengths
What's the difference in the shaft length of a 40 Featherweight standard and a 40 Plus long shaft? I obtained a nice Featherweight yesterday in a trade and I was surprised at how short it is: 2 1/2" shorter than my Merc 3.3 so-called short shaft! I'm thinking of pairing the Featherweight up wit...

Fuel Leakage
My Silver Century #WSL 617JJ6 has what appears to be 10:1 fuel mix leaking from the bottom of the exhaust tube. It's not coming out in copious amounts but enough to be noticeable. It started after I ran the engine excessively hot in a barrel not knowing I was supposed to remove the prop. I have not ...

Re: No water flow
I've had the same problem - no water flow. While I haven't been running it in a bucket, I do use a large barrel. I'll try it with the prop off and report back. Thanks!

Re: Extra Long Long Shaft?
Drive shaft tube length is 24.5" so no such thing as an extra long long shaft. However, that is longer for most, if not all, outboards sold here in the U.S. Brands such as Mercury, Yamaha, Suzuki, Tohatsu, Honda, et all, have shaft lengths of 15" for short and 20" for long. Not sure w...

Extra Long Long Shaft?
Did Seagull make 2 LS versions? My Silver #WSL 617JJ6 seems to have an extra long shaft. If that is the case, why the extra length?
