Sea Bee??

Having sold a couple of nasty modern (1980's  ) outboards, and having a rest from the trials and tribulations of my Seagull, I seem to have acquired a Sea Bee! 1. What are the spanner sizes used on it, as my selection of WW, AF & MM don't seem to fit terribly well? 2. Are there any sources ...

Re: New member: Forty Plus

Thanks for that tip. I've dragged it out for another go, although the plug doesn't fit in the hole to make contact with the coil so I'll have to have a rummage for a different one. Despite the rebuild I've still got doubts about how hard it is to turn over, I had to get my son on the rope, we're bot...

Re: 8-10ft GRP clinker style??

Hmmm, thanks for your reply Hugz, lots to think about. I might be better with 10ft and a small lightweight trailer, like you say anything less is not up for the adventure. An inflatable might also be a solution for throwing in the van for a quick trip. I like the idea of the Seagull having its own t...

Re: New member: Forty Plus

Thanks for the heard up on the coil, I've just measured it at 3.48K ohms so that seems ok. I'll strip the points etc out and clean them, I'll try the old condenser first, I'm working towards pulling a rope on it tomorrow maybe. I can always strip back and replace it if the ign is no good. What shoul...

8-10ft GRP clinker style??

I'm probably putting the cart before the horse but I'm now thinking about craft to suit the Seagull 40 Plus that I'm reassembling I'm currently doing a cheap resto on a 16ft cruiser (Yeoman Cougar, complete wreck but cost nothing) and seem to have amassed a few motors. I'm thinking of something that...

Re: New member: Forty Plus

Reassembled block https://image.ibb.co/hv7Lm7/image.jpg Repaired HT connector, I used some superglue to bond the Bakelite but there was also a piece missing so I moulded some Milliput to fill it. https://image.ibb.co/jbkqm7/image.jpg I've removed the cover off the points ready to tackle that area. O...

Re: New member: Forty Plus

Rings received from John yesterday. Started the reassembly today, a thin smear of semi hardening Hylolite Red on the crankcases and a smear of black sticky Loctite on the base gasket. New rings installed and a satisfactory 'Thwop' noise as I turned it over without the head. Just need to anneal the h...

Re: New member: Forty Plus

The saga continues... Split the crankcase to find the crank area had loads of sand in it!!! Cleaned everything in carefully in solvent and blew with the airline. Reassembled it and nipped up the crankcase bolts, fitted the the cylinder on without the rings, and it turns over by hand if I put the nut...

Re: New member: Forty Plus

You'll have to forgive my ignorance, but how do you get it straight in the lathe?
I've got a Boxford but it's a bit buried at the back of the workshop!
I've got a DTI too, somewhere safe!!

Re: New member: Forty Plus

You're right, the crank became more free as I loosened the crankcase bolts, to the point where I could spin it over by hand.
Keep stripping it?
How do I check crank etc?
Thanks

Re: New member: Forty Plus

Right, despite being distracted by all the other 'projects', I've now removed the flywheel.
The HT lead was already cracked open at the magneto end so I'll need to replace that on the rebuild.
It's still quite stiff to turn.
What's my next step??
Many thanks

Re: New member: Forty Plus

Thanks for all the support and advice.

Took the drive leg off and the head unit is still stiff to turn over.
What do you suggest next?
Magneto/flywheel off and open her up?
Does the crank case split easily?

Cheers
