The only part that is not right is the exhaust tube, that I made out of stainless steel, but it looks and works ok. I would like to get hold of a bett...

Plating
I have looked at pictures of cleaned and restored seagulls on this site and others and i have to ask one question, did the early seagulls aluminium parts ie (prop, gearbox), the parts that get the main wear, ever have any kind of plating? How does seawater affect the unplated metals of the older sea...

spark plug
Maybe a new spark plug is in order, the old one is a twin electrode.
Can you still get them or is it the standard NGK ones?
(I am probably going to upset someone by saying this) I was thinking about repainting the tank and putting a new seagull logo on?

FVP
Hi all first off i would like to thank the members of SOS for their help so far, I picked up an fvp Super forty plus at a boot sale about two weeks ago. It is well greased and in fair condition but it starts well. I mainly sail weekends (fgsc) (byc) but love working on old engines and so on maybe no...

Could anyone tell me if the seagull crank should have end float as my one has about 1/4" play and if so does it affect the running?

I have put a hose pipe to the head and managed to get some water flow but i have not tried the engine as yet. Is there a better way of cleani...

A big thank you to charlesp for all your help and advice. The seagull in question started after the second pull and after the fuel tap had stopped leaking (ie cork washer had expanded). Did not run it for long as it was on the work bench. As far as the drive tube and exhaust tube are concerned the d...
