Bruce when these motors left the factory I can assure you the cylinder fitted the crankcase perfectly!
It either got broken or the parts got shuffled up, if you send me good pictures, in privately or in public I might be able to tell you where your problem lies.

Re: Marston OG rebuild
Bruce, we can list your standard size cylinder on the Marston Wish List should you require one, hate to think what one will cost.
This is the least common of all the Marston cylinders.
As I've never heard any mention of a 50mm 20 oversize piston with ring gaps suitable for a series one OA

Re: Boxed SD
Hugo you said in May "should be in a museum" do you know of one?
I've heard of a private one in New Zealand,
Nothing in the UK, not even a site for collectors that isn't on facebook & as we all know "grandads don't do facebook"

Re: Boxed SD
Now that is interesting, but it does pose a few questions. Has anyone ever seen a green painted fuel tank with a Seagull logo underneath the paint? Must have been green as tank "straps" green. Air intake later fitting? Anyone in their 80's or 90's remember their father having "insulat...
Re: No spark
You could always clean & set the points twice & try again.

Re: Seagull 110 Inboard !!
The outboard version wasn't fitted with the air intake silencer which sits where the fuel tank normally is fitted & the carb didn't have the cast aluminium inlet manifold, the air inlet was part of the cylinder.

Re: Seagull 110 Inboard !!
If I remember right, the carb if original should be an Amal 419, the exhaust is asbestos lagged up to the stainless water cooled "silencer" & it should come with an aluminium hull plate that's probably fibre glassed into the hull as that's the total motor support. A perfect display sup...

Re: 1967 Forty Plus 3hp - idle possible?
You have a fixed gear Forty Plus (FP) that doesn't have a clutch which would enable it to run without the prop turning.

Re: 1967 Forty Plus 3hp - idle possible?
Post the full serial number of your Seagull, which will be found on the lower half of the crankcase, we will then be able to tell if your Seagull has the ability to run without the prop rotating.

Re: 170 rebuild first start - wet! (Update: now dry)
If you read the manual carefully it will probably say if you have the mk 3 wipac CDI (White one) 35 thou & the mk4 CDI 25 thou.
Those gaps are 0.9mm & 0.6mm.
Those gaps are 0.9mm & 0.6mm.

Re: 170 rebuild first start - wet! (Update: now dry)
It's there to prevent fuel drips from the carb landing on the hot head & sparkplug, catch on fire & not be seen as it's under the cover. To measure the head piston clearance try first with a 4 inch length of multi core solder & poke through the spark plug hole to the cylinder wall, rotat...

How much piston @ TDC to cylinder head clearance do you have?
