The Amal carb. The tiller grip has been bashed a bit and first aid applied with elastoplast. Is the cord pull a modern item?

The transom bracket I don't think is the original. It is a bigger one, which i believe is a later one.

Little Model 40 F1027

This shows the serial number. The wire locking through the head of the clamp bolt can be seen. The clamping ring itself is smaller tha ones that I have seen on FVs - I wonder how many legs dropped into Poole harbour before the change was made! The bronze latch can just be seen - I don't know how common that was.

Good surface finish on castings. Nice quality prop with thin and polished blades.

Re: Little 40 and No Interest?

I didn't realise that the F was produced in two different versions:- (This is based on a sample of two so a little speculation/guesswork has been employed!). 1. F201 is what I would call the 'Small Block Version'. The main width of the block is 2.7"- (later ones appear to be 3.0"). As a re...

Re: Little 40 and No Interest?

Charles, I was surprised that the head, block and crankcase were the same size as the FV. You mentioned a change point. Was that in respect of the small head and block to the bigger 'FV type'? In other words the change was more significant than just the fastener size. Within what dates and/or serial...

Re: Little 40 and No Interest?

I have just come back from holiday to find the Little Forty F1207 that I bought off e bay has been safely delivered. It was in a superb wooden box and has suffered no damage in transit. The engine is in visually good condition. It appears not to have been meddled with. The chrome plated tubes are in...

Re: FV/FVP Carb Body.

This wanted post was initially about a replacement/repair to an FV carb. It is not correct to say that all 40 series carbs are the same. For example the FV carb has a 7/16 venturi and some if not all SJMs had a 1/2" as well as other detail differences. So a general overal statement between 40, ...

FV/FVP Carb Body.

The 1/8 BSP threads where the banjo bolt fits have been stripped. (Not my fault!). I am looking for a replacement carb body or indeed a complet carb. This carb has a 7/16" venturi bore. It is off an FV and I assume the FVP is the same. It is possible that the LM/LS also have the same carb. I be...

Re: Help! It won't start.

I think the treatment has produced a clear pipe - no more constipation! I have swapped the bits back and the engine seems to start ok, although not with the reliability of first pull everytime as it used to do. Anyway I plan to be way on hols for a couple of weeks, so it will be there on my return. ...

Re: Help! It won't start.

Adrian, No sludge has come out. I have tried to poke a wire through it. The wire gets jammed about 1/2" from the banjo end. Although I can poke a wire with difficulty a short distance in from the banjo end. Using compressed air produces air through the pipe, but subjectively not as much as I ex...

Re: Help! It won't start.

No, the carb was very clean. The curly pipe was the problem. I am not 100% sure that it is completely clear now, even after trying and failing to get a wire through it and blowing it out with compressed air. I am concerned that there is something in it which the wire pushes around to the carb end of...

Re: Help! It won't start.

It started!!! The carb and pipe off my other FV did the trick. I repeated the swap ie put its original carb and pipe on - didn't start. Then put the replacement one on and it started again. Great. In process of looking at the original carb and pipe. White Coats. With the lack of progress and my resu...

Re: Help! It won't start.

Adrian, Yes, that's a good idea. I can take the carb off my other FV (FV1867T - this was running reasonably well in the estuary earlier this week) and put it on the dead FV. If still no progress, what do you think of the idea of removing the Wipac system which is temporarly fitted to the dead FV and...

Re: Help! It won't start.

Stelios,
Thanks for your suggestion. I will try it. Right now I have to do something vital - blasted shopping! So playing with Seagulls will apparently have to wait a bit.

Re: Help! It won't start.

Charles UK, Carb sizes:- My FVs have a throat size of 7/16". A couple of SJMs I have plug gauged to 1/2", although i really don't know how representative they are. The FV carbs that I have also have throttle slide stops on them. Resistance figures;- I am using, as I have stated a cheap and...
