Chaps, play nicely together; don't bicker in front of the Colonials!
Gives them false hope of an improvement in their station!

Re: Hello and a bit of TLC needed...

As you have already guessed it is total strip and clean of the fuel system from tank to main jet before you look for anything else. (John can certainly supply you with a workshop manual however I have to say you that everything you would ever wish to know, and in greater detail, is available on the ...

Errrrrrrrrrrr no. Freemans/Sheridan may have a "John" but this one isn't he. "SOS John" is the owner and proprietor of Saving Old Seagulls, based down Kent way. No where near Moulsford........ And for confirmation if you look at the top of this web page you will see that this for...

Re: rubber or brass?.

took the prop of and looked at the part,s book it said there should be a rubber oil seal on mine there is a brass one. I have a thought that maybe this is assembled wrongly. Firstly these (relatively late) gearboxes have a proper oil seal [ # C40/236] and outer rubber oil seal cover [C40/239]. Ther...

Re: featherweight cylinder base bolts

No. Just a plastic bathtub. Quite tippy, slow, heavy and not something that will ever make it to Lerryn even though it is mm under 12 feet long. The manufacturer's plate has been removed so no easy identification however there was a suggestion that they were made in Wales by a company called Ferrant...

Re: featherweight cylinder base bolts

Seagull Part number is 217. It is exactly the same as the 5/16BSF head bolt. Thread length is 1 inch. This a standard bolt used on many BS motors. Details from my bench book....... Unless they are radically shorter I'd not worry. If they are longer it won't hurt . The extra length will simply protru...

Re: Gearbox Sludge

Yes, sorry hadn't spotted your earlier comment on measuring; I was doing a CYA following my previous. But leaving out the base gasket on a progressively shortened block is eventually the risky one even if the std copper head gasket is there........... the con and piston don't get shorter!

Re: Gearbox Sludge

It might be wise to also point out that varying the thickness of a paper gasket over the factory stock item might have unintended consequences in extremis.......... In particular thinner or thicker gasket paper between the gearbox front cap and the gearbox body will affect the meshing of the crown a...

Re: Gearbox Sludge

There are quite a few past threads on techniques for duplicating paper gaskets. I doubt it would be worthwhile recreating them from scratch in CAD when it is so easy to scan to pdf or even simply photocopy. I suppose it depends how many you use each season on whether it is worthwhile. If you are nec...
