Re: Non-starting 102
Never mind the baking soda, let's get this 102 going properly! Clean the carb, fuel pipe, fuel tank & refill with 10 : 1, a completely new mix. Check the magneto base plate does not rotate, magneto base plate fixing screw is about 8 o'clock, spark plug is 6 o'clock, spark plug gap 20 thou, .5 mm...

Re: What spares to carry on an extended expedition?
There is nothing wrong with the Villiers coils. Apart from the fact that all of them are at least 45 years & up to 75 years old. Every year several of them go all the way around Bermuda, 42 miles, & loads go down the Waikato in New Zealand, 87 miles & do it year after year. In my experia...

Re: Gearbox oil filling
Without the engine number it's more difficult to answer your question, if your motor is a 102, water is added to the exhaust near the top, which will mix with the 2 stroke in the exhaust producing this effect.
Many of the post 78 Seagulls had water in the exhaust.

Re: Non-starting 102
To identify your engine & answer your question we will need the full engine number, as the 416 carb suggests it could be a very late motor.
All technical queries should enclude the engine number.

Re: What spares to carry on an extended expedition?
By remote area do you mean, No phone signal , no people, no roads, no houses, no Starbucks? If you can't fit a second motor in there, & complete plug lead is pretty small. It might be better to look a prat taking a spare motor, than have a lot of people looking for you, cos you should have been ...

Re: Amal 416 Questions
Try blowing down the "holes" I expect that you find there is no hole if you have the right carb. You haven't stepped into anything, you just bought a book that seems to have been rushed into print with numerous errors & contradictions & with many pictures & illustrations "...

Re: Pistnbroke arriving UK 28 OCt 1855 SQ318
Your not picking the best time of year for visiting God's country, May/June would have been much better, but it still will be greener than you've seen for a while. By November most Seagulls are just starting their hibernation, so I doubt if you'll see many. The weak £ should make your visit a lot mo...

Re: Amal 416 Questions
Another example of why we don't endorse this publication. The Amal 416 fitted to the model 75 had no, adjustment screws, this model has no stop button so no need for idle adjustment or an idle mixture screw. As a matter interest, is your copy a first or second edition? as John spent several days cor...

Re: Seeping oil
Most of the LLS's were not fitted with Helicoil spark plug threads, after 50+ years the thread is allowed to ge a bit tired, so your losing 1/2 a teaspoon of rather dirty 2 stroke oil on to the lower half of the cyl;inder head, I don't think that's life threatening. I think you will have almost no c...

Re: ON Standing 1/4 Drag Run on the Thames.
Well come on gentlemen, when is it? Some of us will have heaps of preparations to do. The trailer tyre has a punture, so I'll have to get that fixed & the Southern Hemisphere entrants will need time to get all their shots before they go into quarantine. I've tried Teflon on my bottom, not very s...

Model 55, dia 8", pitch 7", total blade area 28.26 sq", gear ratio 2.5 : 1.
Model 75, dia 8.25", pitch 7", total blade area 39.00 sq", gear ratio 2.5 : 1.
I have no figures on the hydrofan
I've only looked at props that could have a racing application
