Re: LS33642

Thanks John for that info ref the 3 inlet holes. There is no hurry for the flywheel date. Yes, I get the impression that these Early Series Forty are quieter than later ones. They have only one hole in the exhaust pipe, with the FVs having a smaller hole than the LS. Whether this is the reason for t...

Re: Nuts and Bolts

Jacob, are you trying to obtain 1/4" BSF set screws just like the originals? These have a specific head design, which has a name, but I have forgotten what they are called. Does anybody know what the name is? This will help Jacob to find the original looking set screws.

Re: Cylinder Base and Head Joints...early models

I have seen similar information previously, but not so highly specific and so very clear. So it is very interesting to see that. My belief is that these Bostik sealants were chosen to prevent cooling water from coming into contact with the aluminium head and the aluminium crankcase. This was absolut...

Re: LS33642

John, It looks a really nice not mucked around late LS. I have added the details onto the list of Early Series Forty. Does it have the later 3 inlet hole gearbox? If you have taken the flywheel cover, what is the date of the flywheel? These early 40s are really very useable outboards. My preference ...

Re: Putting up a real fight!!!

With regard to the cylinder head removal, could I ask why do you want to remove it? You could consider running the engine and then decide if it really needs to be removed. But if you really do want to remove it and there appears to be corrosion products between the studs and the head, I have resolve...

Re: Folding Seagull

I am intrigued. Did the Evinrude 'fold' to reduce the overall length, or was it possible to just quickly break it into two parts? I can see that there are advantages in doing so for storage or transport in a car or boat. An Early Series Forty can quickly become two parts (intentionally or accidental...

Re: Little Forty ?

Thank you John for the photos. It looks a nice complete correct LS. I think the tank is the later c7/16" corner rad version. I note that the choke flap does not have the central air hole. I am not able to see whether the float chamber has a drainage hole or not. Could you tell me? The fuel pipe...

Re: Little Forty ?

Hi John, Well done on acquiring another engine from the Early Forty Series. I have added it to the register. I would be interested what tank is fitted (ie has it the 7/16 or the 3/4 corner rads) and whether the choke flap has a air hole in the middle and also whether the carb bowl has a drain hole n...

FVP6317

A reasonably nice looking FVP has just appeared on e bay. I hope it goes to a good home and is not stripped for bits, although I know the debate about bits being made available to enable more than one FV/FVP to be completed. Buyers will obviously have to, as is always the case, assess the price and ...

Re: FVP10341

Hi Charles,

No, I haven't seen anything like this before. I suspect it is American in origin due to the gasoline and I suspect the American size gallon.

Nice to see FVP6842T receiving attention.

Re: Little Forty flywheel no apertures

I am not convinced about this method of rotating the engine to recover a spark, but if you do that, please ensure that the piston/cylinder is lubricated.
Good luck.

Re: Little Forty flywheel no apertures

FVP6842T is a 'new' one to me. Its not one of yours is it Tam? Surely its not heading north to you? Baiter, I keep a register with derived details of the original spec. I would be grateful for a photograph of it. It is interesting to have a 'T' suffix, as its near relative, FVP6798T, was also so ide...

Re: New 1974 WSPCL327MM4

Surely it is a matter of how it looks rather than whether the crankshaft assembly has tpossibleurned over 5,000 times or 500,000 times. Obviously running it, increases the chance of handling damage as well as some oil/temperature stains. But apart from that, the visuals are affected by general handl...

Re: Recently Sold AU. AD839

Well done Tam, for spotting that. Is that your early FV Bruce? They are great useable engines. I used FV3048, which is a very near relative of yours, on the Yealm estuary last week. Looking again at the photo, it looks like it might be another engine as the serial number appears to start FV33 or per...
