Re: having problems getting sparks especially on the older t
I also put plenty of oil down the bore and crankcase first. In fact a glug of it shot out of the plug hole splattered the front of my shorts Try explaining that to her ladyship. I'm just happy that another 60 plus year old engine is showing signs of life again.

Re: having problems getting sparks especially on the older t
I've just put an old AD back together, which I know had not run for many years possibly 10-20 years. The cylinder had corroded away completely but the magneto was complete. after reassembling with another cylinder and crankcase there was no spark, so I feared another dead coil. However I tried the &...

Re: Inaugural Aussie Seagull Gathering - It's ON!!!
I think you are right Charles £88.06 30 day "use when you like" ticket seems reasonble. A full 12 month licence for a small portable boat after discount will come out at just under £200. (54 pence per day) However the 1 day licence for rivers only is £7.31. Thirty Day Explorer This gives y...

Re: Which shaft length for my pram dinghy
I have a nice tidy 40 plus with a later clutched bottom end, that is surplus. Standard shaft length. I only bought it because it had a rare throttle lever that I needed for another engine. Remember that engine H-A?

Brilliant job Graham :D Really looks the part. I bet you are very pleased 8) Now for the SD rally. I will confirm the venue is ok to use, and firm up a date. Who can make the around the third week in August? Assuming all is ok, venue would be Long Eaton, Derbyshire.Junction 24/25 on the M1. An alter...

Re: SD restoration
I got the engine back on the water this evening. Running a lot better, but there still seems to be a fueling issue, as I still have to tickle the carb quite a bit. I'm going to try another carb next. Running down the canal, the engine seems to attract every bit of weed around. Blocking the water inl...

102 on Ebay
I was watching this on Ebay after I noticed the top feed carb and pepper pot intake. Now sold off-line by the looks of it. Is it a pre-war model, or an SD with an earlier carb fitted?

Re: Proposed Seagull Marathon early next summer 2011 May/Jun
I find XC weather to be quite good. I use it a lot when going offshore. This is the current forecast for Portsmouth, seems reasonable: Sat 21 May BST Wind Avg. Gust Temp. Rain Weather Cloud Visibility Pressure 10:00 S 8 mph to 10 mph 14 C 0 mm 28% 20000 m 1020 mb 13:00 S 12 mph to 14 mph 15 C 0 mm 2...

Re: SD restoration
Before and after pics. Thanks to all who helped, particularly to Jan, without his help obtaining various parts, the engine would still be in bits. :D and to H-A who always knows how to mend something  . Also to the 2 Charles's for the history lessons :D I'm definately hooked  Now for the...

Re: SD restoration
I had a look at the carb tonight, and discovered that the float needle was bent  The holes in the float bowl cover were also blocked with crud, so I got the whole on the operating table for a full strip down. I suspect the float was sticking in the "up" position, which would explain ...

Re: SD restoration
I got the engine onto the back of a sea scout rowing boat this evening. Same quick start up and pumping water very nicely. :D However the engine runs well at higher revs, but when it slows to tick over it tends to die. In particular when slowing down to engage the clutch the engine stalls as soon as...

Re: SD restoration
I've been a little quiet on this thread, as I have been busy putting the SD back together  I finished it today and got it ready to go in the test tank. It started first pull, with the throttle fully open :P . However it ran very rough at lower revs and kept cutting out. Reason was that the flo...

Re: SD restoration
Can anyone advise the size of the thread for the gearbox oil filler plug? I believe a standard plumbing fitting fits and was the original brass plug?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Just bought a kingfisher.
Nice one, thats a really good buy. FNR engines seem to be getting very popular and expensive. I'm after one myself as a future project as and when one comes up reasonably close.
