Re: Proud owner of a 170 but....

If you observe carefully, you will see no cooling water coming out of the tell tale at tickover. 5 minutes with no cooling water flow, will probably cause the motor to stop by overheating the piston & causing a small seizure, not the best idea in a Seagull nearly 30 years old. One of the problem...

Re: Aluminium Brazing or Repair.

CI
Twostrokenut has one that's on it's way to me, once he gets it off I'll wait a couple of weeks to see if any more turn up, then I'll stick what I have in the post.

PS you owe him a cold tinny, he drinks in the Rose & Crown & want's it delivered.

Re: Aluminium Brazing or Repair.

It's not a pilot, it's a Anzani Super Single there should be plenty of them floaying around over here.

If anyone has one that's in resonable condition, PM me, I've promised CI that I'll post him as many as I can find, as they seem to be scarce in Australia.

Re: Aluminium Brazing or Repair.

I can't see enough corrosion in those pics to merit a repair Bruce, it's only a pilot,
is it leaking water anywhere?

No chance your dog is very fond of me, he's stopped destroying my slippers.

I was hoping you wouldn't find those naked pics of me, but I do look impressive in my birthday suit, even if it does look like it needs ironing.

Measure the compression & let us know what your getting, the compression tester will need an 18mm plug adapter. Beware the carb cleaner if you've got a black carb, it will remove 50% of the paint. All you need for ignition is fuel, compression & a spark all at the right time, something must ...

The rev range of a 40 series motor is from about 2200 to 4000 revs. the water pump is very unlikley to pump at tickover & probably won't start to pump until 2500 to 2600 revs, when testing in the water tub, open it up a bit & then a bit more. There seems to be no physical reason your motor s...

Hugo
Handle these with caution, only buy if complete, very few later parts fit these, different stroke only 56cc, mind you, won't have seen a lot of salt water in Ballarat.

Jump in your Ute & have a look, only 600 miles, you could be there & back in 24 hours.

RBT you'll have to borrow Timberland's boat, he pulled 4 of us boats along the Thames at the speed limit, & didn't even break into a sweat!

The Thames is a proper river, not a Cornish creek.

It's a Seagull Mick but a sorta bitsa. It's a 170, 102cc, FNR, gearbox, missing the cover & remote tank, With a non Seagull tank bodged on top. Seagull claimed 7 1/2 hp in the early 80's but as no other manufacturer ever claimed more than 5 hp from that sort of capacity, I would take the claimed...
