Jeez Tom that sounds like a place to work! So many toys so little time :) They do a similar tank sealer over here at Frosts ( POR15 ) http://www.frost.co.uk but there seems to be a shipping restriction on it. I plan to line a new steel tank I have with it before use so hopefully I won't get the rust...

And so it begins ..... :) Next you will decide that this bit would look better polished when you service it, you start buying better condition bits to improve it, stainless nuts and bolts .... then comes the fateful day you wonder how much extra push a 40+ would give. ( but you can't get rid of the ...

Thanks for the input guys. I must admit I am aware that modern motors with high SPEED props can tend to bog down and not reach high revs, didn't think that was supposed to happen with Seagulls. The carb should be OK but will do no harm to check again at the weekend, will try a new plug too. The tank...

or is it a case of having to build up speed very slowly? open throttle a crack more each time?

to be honest I expected more 'grunt' am used to being able to just open up, and would want to feel I could in an emergency

Hmm, Jeez I hope not! When my yacht was new it was supplied with a 4hp outboard, indeed thats what was fitted when I got her, using an equation I found on the net a while ago 2.9hp should be all I NEED to reach hull speed, ( nothing in reserve obviously ) the 90 is reckoned to be around 5Hp so I was...

90 -> 45

Been using a rather nice 90 on my 22ft yacht as some may know. Works fine and being a sailing boat I do tend to, er, sail it when poss so the motor has not had a work out and not been run beyond about 1/2 throttle. Took it out again yesterday and decided as there was little or no wind in the morning...

Hi Derek, If you could post the engine number the real experts could probably be more specific. Yes, it does sound like fuel starvation ( mixture going weak as the fuel supply can't keep up with the demand at WOT ) Assuming you have the most common villiers carbed 40+ there most certainly is a tank ...

Firstly, make sure the motor has fully warmed up before engaging drive ( Ie don't try the second the choke is off! ) My 90 can be a bit sensitive to that, secondly, try increasing the revs a TINY amount before engaging ( I am talking no more than a 'fast tickover' here ) go too fast and you will dam...

Actually, just saw the hidden question in your post, yes there is nothing to stop you running a feed from a larger remote tank to the carb with a new fuel line but bear in mind as the system is gravity fed if the tank were too big or too high the pressure would overcome the needle valve and flood th...

Not sure a woman could understand or use one but I use one of these: http://www.rochemarine.co.uk/?sfgdata=4#653X699 Advantages are you don't need to modify your tank cap, the hand control / spout contains a pump so you can pump fuel or siphon depending on location and finally its a big tank ( they ...

Does sound very much like the mixture is out as you have obviously considered yourself as you rebuilt the carb. As that didn't work and a replacement doesn't fix it then I can only surmise you have an air leak somewhere, or possibly a loose ignition backplate putting the timing out a bit. If the bac...

Hi, Firstly the white deposit is probably corrosion and / or salt, either way it should polish off, Seagulls are usually protected either by a clear varnish or silver paint ( exact colours do vary with the models ) if it is unprotected then be prepared to do a lot of polishing! As for the water circ...

Hi Steven, Don't know the actual answer to this but on my H*nda ( which has remotes but I never connected the steering, what would I connect it to on a yacht? ) it just has a flat horizontal stainless plate with a single hole that is mounted centrally at the front. Would think you could easily knock...
