Re: Seagulls as the greenest motor on the water

David, You have certainly collected a great deal of information. Thanks. As you indicate, there are two applications:- 1. Gear boxes. It might well be possible to use a food grade mineral oil. Whether it is worth the trouble and the potential risk to the gears is a moot point. One important aspect i...

Re: Brass Tank

Oyster's thread about canted tanks got me thinking. (to nearly quote!). In actual fact it got me examining my (FV) canted tank. It is the same carcass as my LM/LS tank as identified by Charles. I should have realised that before. Of course all the fittings are in a different position, but dimensiona...

Re: Brass Tank

Thank you Charles for the info that it came from an LM or LS. I wouldn't mind the rest of the outboard - preferably the LM version - but that is a real long shot. More sensibly it should be reunited with an LM or LS which is tank less. Any takers? I presume Charles, that your very early SJM hasn't g...

Re: Seagulls as the greenest motor on the water

I am interested in this 'food grade oil'. What exactly is it? What is it called? Where can one get it? Is it just a matter of filling up the gearbox in the usual way but with SAE140 biodegradable? Is that its complete description? What about adding it to the petrol. Why and how does the mixture need...

Brass Tank

Some advice please. I have a brass tank which appears different in shape to the 40 series ones that I am familiar with. I would like to know what it came off and its date. Dimensions are:- Fore and aft 4.5". Compared to 5" on others. Height 3.1" Compared to 3.4" Length 10.45"...

Re: Little Model Forty F (1949/50)

Here is a photo of F201 with the 223 Amal loosely attached. Visually it looks ok and compares very well with the photo that Charles P took of the other one, which is shown in the fourth post of this topic. HPIM0109.JPG However this Amal (model 223/001) of mine is far too big. I think that the correc...

Re: Little Model Forty F (1949/50)

Thanks for that. I have just got to be more alert on looking at e bay. I sent a msg to the chap selling this one, to confirm that it has actually been sold, which it has. I have found a good site giving details of the Amal. I do not have the address at the moment. I think it is britcycle.com. Do you...

Re: British Seagull Industrial Engine

Thanks for that input, Charles. I didn't want to set a hare running; just curious about what this chap read out to me, and interested to hear from you that there is no evidence of a Seagull Industrial engine.

British Seagull Industrial Engine

I was speaking to a guy at Amal Carbs, and in conversation he mentioned a Type 52 Amal Carb (with a 0.328 chock dia) was fitted to a 40cc British Seagull Industrial Engine.
What was a Seagull Industrial Engine?

Re: Original tiller grips

I have one or two, but fitted on, for my purposes, the wrong brass tiller. I have not worked out how to remove them without damage, so that they can be fitted onto another tiller. Hot water soak doesn't seem to work.

Weedless Prop

I am after a weedless prop for a Featherweight/Forty Minus. These I believe were fitted to the later Featherweights.
Thanks

Re: 40 minus Restoration

You have done a great job on this early Forty Minus. Lovely to see them in this condition. The brass finish exhaust tube looks the part. The tank especially looks truly excellent. I expect that you have learnt a great deal in doing this. If you want to use this new skill, I have tank or two which yo...

Re: Little Model Forty F (1949/50)

Here is a picture of these three Lodge plugs.
What do you think? Are they contemporary and are they suitable for my F?
Appreciate your help.

Re: Little Model Forty F (1949/50)

With the posting about Champion 8 COM spark plugs I was wondering whether any of the three Lodge plugs that i have are suitable and contemporary with the 1949 Little Model Forty F. These Lodge plugs can be stripped down. One is a C3, another CB3 and the third does not have any identification apart f...
