I saw this in the Orkneys around 2006, with wonder of wonders the motor mounted portside so the pilot sat starboard without his/her left arm nowhere near the flywheel !

If the motor is mounted to the left of centerline, (portside) with the tiller on the left of the motor, why not sit to the right (starboard side) so you can sit facing forward, and your left hand is on the tiller ?

Not as sorry as I was to sell it after it was rebuilt. The rod let go at the big end, and folded up in the piston, there was a small chip to the bottom of the barrel liner, otherwise no (at least visible) damage. That looks like an aircooled Eclipse, I used to run a 5HP twin ...... until the conrod separated at 7500RPM.

I would imagine it be more due to the centrifugal nature of the impeller forcing water to the engine more than water pressure on the inlets. Perhaps if the inlets were smoother (or larger) it might make some difference. On the other hand how hot does the exhausted water get ?
