Re: Hot Seagull...
I understand that we may are boring insisting on the water jacket but there are few things that could go wrong on these motors. So about this matter. Have you also undone the fitting that screws on the cylinder? Not just the pipe from the fitting. And no, certainly it's not time to quit. In my shor...

Re: Hot Seagull...
I think David is right, it urgently needs a full strip down! If the crankcase is running hotter than the cylinder base next to it, ignoring the insulating paper gasket between them & the fact that there is about 400 litres of cooling petrol/air mix passing through it every minute, there is a ma...

Re: Hot Seagull...
So the screws on the con rod cap was tight right? Any coke deposits in the area near the little end? I had an occasion with a piston that had a small hole and let the combustion reach the little end, but this won't be the reason to get your engine run hot.. :( In addition, do I see a discoloration ...

Re: Hot Seagull...
You have had the head off then and seen that they are clear? Sorry about that as you said it was a model 102 AD. So when you say it's pumping enough water, are you going by the telltale where the cooling water enters the exhaust tube? Is it possible that the only exit water is that coming out the t...

Re: Hot Seagull...
Here's a look at the inside of the AD. There is no more wear than normal in big end or small end,I have certainly seen worse Seagulls and they didn't run hot! :? I have been rebuilding engines for years and I can't see any reason why this one runs hot  and yes,the water passages in block ARE C...

Re: 1944 ex-WD SD and 1947 AC
Thanks. The SDs are as rare as hens teeth over here,in fact I'm not aware of anyone else who has one in this part of British Isles. I do know a man who has a shed full of Century models but he hasn't got any 102s :( I was once given a very sad looking Elto Ruddertwin by a man who told me he thought ...

It's sad to think that these are just a few of the big exports from the UK for over 50 years until the world ended fo...

1944 ex-WD SD and 1947 AC
Hi there, I thought I'd share a few pictures of my 102s with you blokes. :) Hope ye like them, unfortunately neither motor has their proper bracket :( But who cares, they both run well and I really like the SD as the WD number on the leg is always a great talking point with other boaters over here. Th...

Re: Hot Seagull...
Everything looks fine to me. Carb is correct, mixture correct. As for the crank, the flywheel came off same as the others and the motor starts easily and runs smooth until hot then the problems start! There is no vibration or strange noises, that's why I can't figure out what the problem is...

Hot Seagull...
One of my 'gulls runs so hot that it misfires and almost seizes! It's a 1951 AD in good condition(bearings, water jacket, carburation etc) but after about 20-30 mins running it gets VERY HOT and the crankcase is so hot that I can hardly touch it  This problem has only started recently. My other ...

Re: New Seagull owner
A real crusty coastal motor...looks like it's seen to much salt water! :( Like the rest of the guys have already told you,try and remove the motor from the leg and begin to strip it down. Cylinder looks shot but internals may be fine...don't lose hope,we have all gone through exactly what you are fa...

Re: Bolger Seahawk and 40 plus
Nice outfit and a nice country. A friend of mine spent 10 weeks last year with his brother in Kittimat,he said it was like heaven! Fishing, boating, salmon, bears etc, etc. The photos left the rest of us VERY envious...
