Re: OMC coil on Villiers core

I only tried the one coil and it snuggly fit in the depression where the high tension spark plug wire makes contact with the coil in the original set up. I don't think two coils would work unless some modification to ignition plate was done.

Re: OMC coil on Villiers core

Has anyone ever converted a Seagull's Villiers ignition system to using a OMC coil?  Well, I think I have.  Story:  Got a 1964 Forty plus Seagull with Villiers ignition.  The coil was giving spark at first then went kaput!!  So, I got a ignition plate with coil, points, and condenser on ebay from the...

Re: 40+ 1964 Villiers ignition issue??

Gentlemen, I was able to get a complete ignition plate and a good coil. Just have to wait near the mail box until it gets here.

Thanks for the explanations, links and encouragement!

Cheers,

Re: 40+ 1964 Villiers ignition issue??

Well, I was trying to remove the coil and left and right laminates, but experienced difficulty. The back laminate screws were defaced from corrosion and possible previous owner attempts to remove. I tried drilling them out but I don't have a drill press so I was using a hand held drill. That was a d...

Re: 40+ 1964 Villiers ignition issue??

I have 1964 SJP 40 Plus.

Coil part number for Villiers 1 ignition:

Is that part number still good??

Are there after market or superseding part numbers for a replacement coil?

** Does a WIPAC coil Mark 2 replace the Villiers Mark 1 coil??

Thanks for any help.

Re: 40+ 1964 Villiers ignition issue??

Well, despite having what I thought was good spark, my coil is bad. I was getting a nice minimum 1/4 inch spark with the checker, but my motor never would at least fire off when I put fuel mix in the cylinder. I thought it was a timing issue so, I tried multiple suggested ways to set my point to max...

What size or type of brass connector or nipple fitting will properly mate with the fuel tank's filter/shut off valve?? What size and thread count. It appears to be a course thread. Re: Need some help identifying a seagull

The motor was a little stiff, so I sprayed a bit of PB blaster and WD40 in the cylinder and wiggled it slowly back and forth and it immediately released and spun freely and with ease with the spark plug out. I let is sit for an hour or so and wrap the rope around the fly wheel a couple times over th...
