Re: LLS 25:1

The better the oil the less smoke, I understand full synethic oil produces little to no smoke. If the plug has soot on it after a hard run, it's running too rich, which appears to be the default setting for every old Seagull I come across. Does it have any decent compression say 60 psi? Cold and dry...

Re: Spanish "Seagull"!!!

That is interesting Stelios, any photos of the fuel tank? It looks something like a 40 with an Amal carb. Any idea of its age?

Points likely need cleaning. Sorry don't know the flywheel routine. Tried google yet? Sometimes surprising what you can find there.

Re: Took apart my gearbox, now I need a part.

The washer you talking about sets the depth of gear engagement and is hardened steel. Bush (U.K.) = bushing or sleeve bearing ( North America)

Interesting contrast between homey and homely between U.K. and North America as well.

Re: Help a newbie

Also best to remove fuel tap before trying to clean tank as the fuel filter screen will likely be destroyed during cleaning with anything but liquid cleaners, this assuming that the later motors continued the practice of having a fuel filter screen mounted to the fuel tap. I find that good solid dri...

Re: Century Plus

I would suggest that a handheld propane bottle torch will not give you enough heat. It seems to me that you need something along the lines of the torch folks use to remove the end caps from fuel tanks (that is probably at least 50,000 Btu) When things do not not budge with two handheld propane turbo...

Flotsam washing up would make it a lee shore in my mind, even though the flotsam drift and fetch up may be influenced by a combination of current and wind.

I love to see your posts and in that way share in your joy of discovery, please don't stop because someone got their feathers ruffled. After all, in the end obviously they were not aggressive enough to make a deal.

Re: Marston- To Break or not To Break

If OA 313 stays in your collection after removing the parts and you keep a record of which motor received them, the process is reversible, I can not see how anyone could complain about that. If parts for OA 313 or the motor that got parts from it are found then you have the option of returning the p...

Around here you can buy a kit with the three common copper tubing sizes for about $10. Consists of wound springs about 25cm in length with flared ends. Slide copper tubing in, bend, and remove.

Re: New Old Dear SJP2497

Sandro, Collectors motor is earlier than yours despite an apparently higher number. The numbering system changed on the SJP motors in the early 60s (1962-63?) yours has a letter and digit at the end indicating the year and month of manufacture. Previously, as on Collectors motor the number consisted...

One ohm is a suitable reading for the primary, certainly not for the secondary, which should be several thousand ohms (k ohms) is the coil still connected to the points?
Yes there is a condenser in thre somewhere.
