I checked the piston and shot some carb cleaner in the...

Re: Bronze welding? (Transom Mount fixing)

Thanks Jerry I'll look into that
I do know a metal artist but he's more the rusty bits and recycling type
I'll ask him about bronze

Banjo Union!! Beware!!

Ok So I'm checking out the Viliers carb diagram so I can clean out the elusive jets When I stumble upon 2 references to the "Banjo Union"!! As a guitar player we have been lobbying for years to block the insidious banjo players from unionizing! Knowing that if they do it may well perpepuat...

Re: Bronze welding? (Transom Mount fixing)

THanks all for the prompt responses Being a poor & lazy ^%$^%$ musician I'll try brazing/tig welding 1st At this time investing $80-90 in a used seagull transom mount isn't possible (though of course well worth it.) And humourously I did actually end up at that very google search result prior to...

Bronze welding? (Transom Mount fixing)

Anybody have any luck and or experience welding up a Seagull Transom mount? (i'm assuming they're bronze)
One of mine is in one too many pieces
My brother has a nice tig welder and does all sorts of crazy circus stuff with aluminum etc
Or would oxy/acety work better?
Can they be welded?

Re: Bing Carb switcheroo

Excellent and thanks! I'll give that a gentle try on the leaky saved-from-being-siezed motor first(1972) as it was only $60 And I'll refrain from piling all the seagulls on my wee sailboat Happily I have only the one motor mount ..it's just something a powerboating friend suggested as a joke when he...

Re: Seagull madness!

Thanks Phil I appreciate the information One can only learn so much from research, actual experience is better I cleaned out the carb the other day and it seems to run well now...of the three 40 minuses I have it's the only one that doesn't leak fuel out of the crankcase, I noticed it doesn't have t...

Re: Seagull madness!

And speaking of props (this will sound dim) but after removing the cotter pin, washer and spring...how does one get the $%@%$# prop off ??, there's a wide thread but I'm disinclined to force it after that

Bing Carb switcheroo

HI all My name is Bernie...and I'm a Seagullaholic...I've owned 4 Seagulls for perhaps a month now I have a 3 40 plus's (and a 66 40 minus that's too little for my boat, I bought it cause it came with lots of factory spares and 3 litres of real SAE140 oil) My 3 40 plus's are: 1959 1972 1978 (bing ca...

Seagull madness!

Hello all from the wilds of western Canada (North Vancouver) Having a Mutineer 15 sailboat and wanting to go places (and return) I naturally aquired 4 Seagulls in the last ..uhh..month Lovely things, I am much smitten by the simplicity of design, reliabilty etc I've done as much research as seems po...
