Re: 1966 seagull 40

HI Bill Up here in Vancouver BC Canada Seagulls in good running condition (40 pluses or minuses/featherweights) seem to go for between $150-$275 Some people try to sell them for more but they seem to stay listed a looooong time $10 USD is an excellent deal! That's about 3 - 4$ Canadian right? ...

Re: slow runnning problems

Thanks I've had some exciting new developments For the first time it started and then cut out on me I was runnning it slow at the dock with the clutch disengaged. I pushed off, emgaged the clutch , increased the throttle and was going to motor out of my slip , It wouldn't respond to the throttle and...

Re: slow runnning problems

What is the correct mixture setting (needle screw height on the carb piston) on the villiers carb for a 40 plus anyway
I knew there was a kind of average setting to start from...where's my %#@%#@ shop manual?

slow runnning problems

The last bunch of times I've been out sailing my longshaft clutched weedless prop (for id purposes) 40 plus has not wanted to run slowly consistantly As I mostly use it to power into my slightly awkward slip area, I really need to have it working well at slow speeds. When throttle down it'll run for...

Re: 40 plus weedless or not to weedless

Ha! Semi-weedless! Like the USA Personally I can't do anything by halves and had to go cold turkey... Having mostly puttered around Indian Arm, Burrard Inlet and English Bay out west here I've generally not picked up any weed regardless of which Seagull I was using(and up till mid last year they've ...

Re: Century starting woes

Well I went round the crankcase tightening bolts, I was using a little 7/16 wrench which seemed to fit exactly so I wasn't torquing them down like crazy. After, I retightened the bolts to the block. After this, with the prop off, the engine started on 3 pulls when cold (with choke), then on the firs...

Re: century head welding?

I agree. I like building things ,but the welder is across town at my very busy brother's so it takes some coordinating.
I might compare it to the other anyway

Re: century head welding?

Here's the head I have to potentially replace my broken one if I don't weld it It's corroded where the water jacket channels would be (which to me is strange cause my new head gasket doesn't have the channels cut.) There's definitely some pitting in those areas Too corroded or should I weld the othe...

Re: Century gearbox

First we have the formerly greased gearbox All three bits and then individual closeups Sadly the one of the gearbox itself is a little wonky, the gears actually look quite good to me but in the picture it looks a little weird, there is some lingering grease and some surface corrosion to the inside o...

40 plus weedless or not to weedless

Out of curiousity for the 40 plus
Is the original 4 bladed square prop more powerful than the later 3 bladed weedless models?
Has anybody tried both?

Century gearbox

First of all I'd like to say there should be a special place in hell for people who fill seagull gearboxes full of grease...yuck! anyway I'm preparing a gearbox for my century rebuild/assemble One was full of grease..yay! and the other was full of dried crumble..crazy That one has a broken skeg so i...
