Re: 40+ reversing = progress backwards
Hi Sandro, The once marketed "Rotagull" contraption which allowed 360 degrees turning was not a commercial or engineering success and more trouble than it was worth I imagine. Incidentally I found the forward-neutral -reverse gear arrangement on my 6 hp Kingfisher to be unreliable - it was...

Re: Yes, it's Operating Seagulls in low temperatures time
http://i677.photobucket.com/albums/vv137/NikonFM3/WinterSeagull.jpg The old Seagull manual had a section entitled "Operating Seagull engines in low temperatures" which I have felt an obligation ton comply with every year since 1973 so sod the snow - winter Seagulling is the business, alth...

Re: THIS IS WORRYING
Surely collecting the engines is merely a superficial affliction. What is really worrying is my reasoning that I got to have additional boats to match each of the engines in the shed..........

Re: just joined
Welcome to the forum Dinger - I think this is one of the best web sites in existence - as befits some of the best engines ever made of course. On the forum we like our pickies as Oyster says, so here is some eye candy of my 38 year old Gull which continues to give great service - on this occasion on...

Re: Auxiliary anchor engine
I once spent a rough night swinging comfortably to what I thought was my trusty anchor but in fact turned out to be a Johnstone 4hp outboard motor - a use for that particular engine which even the manufacturers would probably not approve. I discovered the nature of my ground tackle when I attempted ...

Re: Century 75 4hp on Avon Redstart
You are welcome Sir. Having used the 40- and 40+ on the Avon I prefer the Featherweight. I carry the gull on the stern rail when not in use and heaving it over the rail and down to the dingy and then back up again at the end of the potter is for some reason getting more awkward as the years go by - ...

Re: Proposed Guide Topics...
I think the guide should have a section about matching the bird to the boat - the old Seagull brochures had very helpful sketches showing cross section outlines of boats and the correct engine size and shaft length/transom heights.

http://i677.photobucket.com/albums/vv137/NikonFM3/AvonGulls.jpg Hi there down under, I have used a Featherweight, a 40+ and a Century 100 on my Avon Redcrest. (But not all at the same time  ) Redcrest has a stern seat as pictured. All these engines were short shaft. I can assure you that usin...
