I dont think you can seize an engine without runningit - I would guess some kind of mechanical obstruction is the order of the day.

No seals, just bushings. Lifting that flywheel would be my next step.

Ive finally learned how to avoid the weeds on Cuttyhunk Harbor in MASS in the US. I have also cleared the prop by tilting up under low revs - one warning, if you reach around the motor too far you hit the spark plug and get quite a good shock.. Tipping up by grabbing the fuel cap on my Forty Fthwt s...

My forty plus pushes my 500 pound Island 17 to hull speed quite nicely as a data point for you. My Forty Featherweight can do this in good conditions but not if we are 4 up or are fighting a Force 10.... :D

You can get cross reference from one brand to another at (WHere else??) www.carsparkplugs.com :D I did try D16 and it didnt list a Bosch equivalent though.... However, it does confirm the NGK A6 as the 'equivalent' to the Champion D16, and Bosch site confirms CHampion A16 can be replaced by: M7A M8A...

I let my kids shake it for 30 minutes with about 100 SS nuts and bolts inside, then rinsed with copious amounts of petrol, which I strained and ran into the car. This makes quite a racket, and should be employed while SWMBO is at work, earning money to pay for more 'Gulls You must use Whitworth nuts...

Hope I dont need a new crankshaft

I have a Forty Featherweight that has a cracked lower crankcase from a tiller handle drop - I actually ran it a season plugged with 5200 sealant. I finally fixed it with Al-Weld - a low temp wire weld product you can melt with propane for small stuff, MAPP gas for larger, or oxy-acetylene for a big ...

Ive actually taken my recoil starter off my EFNR as I think a rope starter is much less apt to give me trouble. Of course, the flywheel in this series is somewhat covered than my Forty and Forty Plus collection.

If the products of nuclear testing in the fifties leaves traces in modern steel, my reasoning is that any such traces present in this blade make it suspect.

Ah yes. Enlightenment bursts upon me like the lotus.

I dont think you can date a non-living thing with a nuclear method. Carbon dating (not a method of meeting people) works since the 'natural balance' of isotopes is maintained until the organism dies, then the ratio of active to non-active Carbon begins to change, thus fixing the 'death date' I dont ...
