I bought the set from the guys in Clyde (thats the one over here, not Scotland) and have used most of them on my flock.

But thats 2 40s, a 40+, a Century, and an EFRN...

You cant ever have too many British tools in your box imho

1977 and 1978 were the years of Bing carbs, but the description of a black fuel bowl is consistent with a Villiers carb. I wouldnt count on all 77s and 78s having Bings anyway, the way that stuff came from Seagull was quite entropic sometimes. Anyway, an unmodified Villiers should be run on 10:1. 10...

Im thinking you have a hard to see crack in the body of your carb that plugs with fuel with a rich mixture and then is opening and killing the motor when you try to rev it up.

Thats the best I can think of here.

If you fill a Gull lying down on her back you will overfill the gearbox and it will ooze. Just like the bird, "Gulls like to dine on gear oil standing up so the dont get overfilled.
