Proposed Seagull Marathon early next summer 2011 May/June

Martin, Wander and me are definitely coming to Itchenor.

We just booked the ferry to join the 1st Seagull round Hayling Island Marathon.

We will arrive in Harwich on Thursday morning May 19 and we will be in Itchenor around noon.

In the next weeks we have to pick up and modified the trailer and assembling/testing SD s/n 669 and 2425.

Is there a list with confirmed entrants?

Well that's seven entrants for the Internationally regulated, sorry renowned, Hayling Race.
- so the scrutes would be flabbergasted should a slightly different twin leg turn up -

Booked in with consultant 9th May. Then 4 - 5 weeks wait for bionic transplant. Shall take all relevant papers around to your Mother in Tavi tomorrow to be signed . . .

Sheridan Marine have offered to give me some Seagull baseball caps - Charles, would you like to allocate them as prize booty - "best dressed vesel," "oldest engine completing" or whatever?
John is going to send me some SoS fliers and stickers which I will give out to the thronging crowds. On that point are we going to have kettling of the crowds - a bit controversial I know but may be necessary. I will certainly be doing some kettling in my galley. And what about the press pens, traffic calming measures and Air Exclusion Order? I hope someone is on top of all these things....

Dear Charles and H-A
- I think it might be worth putting a mention onto the YBW.com PBO Reader to Reader Forum and the Yachting Monthly Scuttlebutt Forum - Seagulls often get a mention there and I know that there are a good few Seagulls in regular user in Chi and Langstone harbours so it might generate some more competitors and certainly a few more camp followers for the fleet .

My 8ft tender is not up to specification on this outing and the 15ft speedboat is in the process of a refit, so until a more of an inland outing is on the cards I'm not able take part.

Looks like organising an event in the UK is a complete waste of time. U guys have a bigger population then us an you can't even get enough people together to crew a couple of boats. It looks like you have more visitors coming to your event then your own country men. Maybe you can give prizes for the best excuses as to why people can't attend.

We will have a great weekend I am sure, It is still not too late to chuck your Century in the back of the car and tow your boat down to Chichester.

You miss the point. Of course we are not organised. We are British so we don't do organised. If we wanted to be organised presumably some frightfully disciplined folk from Germany might be able to come over and marshall hordes of Vorsprung Durch Technique outboard motor users to do synchronised Seagulling.
Disorganised is us.
Kind of refreshes one's belief in chaos theory. We like our little engines and their idiosyncracies.
So what if we hold an event in the land of the British Seagull and no British Seagullers turn up!
Such is what lost us the colonies and that hasn't worked out bad for you colonials now has it?

Action news report from Qualifying Day at the Seagull Marathon - for those with a valid excuse note signed by mummy.

Pleiades on station, at anchor off Chalkdock Point. Weather a bit urgh, F 4 Westerly, due to swing south and drop. May have no alternative but to break out select beverages to keep crew morale high.
Crowds thronging, press and papparrazi everywhere. Excitement and expectation at fever pitch.
As for the marathon, well have found Jan's wee green boat. Well done the Netherlanders - at least you will have pole position on the grid. Bon voyage.
