Anzani Pilot ID

Hi all,
I recently purchased an Anzani Pilot. I was told it was early 1950s, but I think it could be 1960s. Serial number p24114.
I am having trouble loading photos.
It has a 3 blade prop, and a twin screw mounting bracket. I can't seem to work out what year it is.

There is no known way to date Anzanis from their serial numbers as is the case with Seagulls - early Anzanis (early 1950's) had aluminium tubes for legs,(later ones had cast, profiled downtubes, single clamp transom brackets, two bladed propellers, Amal carbs, Miller ignition, an the petrol filler caps right over the petrol tap at the rear of the tank.
I think they used the Amal carb up to the Mark lll's and then changed to Zenith. there were four successive model of Pilot, maybe even up to a MK V, late ones have Wico ignitions.

It looks like the photo worked ok. My engine does have the Zenith Carb, so I assume its a Mark 1V. I can add more photos if needed (I hope)

Casting numbers though?

Nice looking engine, but clearly a later one - you will need to do something about the prop nut - the originals got chewed up because they were an aluminium nut being fitted to a slotted stainless steel shaft. Might be worth trying to get the prop off - they are often seized, but you may need to replace the shear pin at some stage, which is a plain brass pin going through the prop hub and the aforesaid slotted shaft.

By the way, the choke on Zenith carbs is actually a brass pin approx. 6mm diameter, which works by changing jet positions. It is found in the top right hand corner of the top of the carb. These are often seized through standing, but the pin has to move freely, so that you push it to its 'down' position for starting, and when you open the throttle, you sill see that the pin pops up by about 6mm, which it need to do to allow the engine to run properly. If this pin does not move, dismantle the cab, clean the 'ole, and polish the pin with brasso or similar, so that it is a smooth but not baggy fit. There is a little steel pin fitted in the side of the brass pin, which has to be replaced in the correct position in the carb body to allow reassembly.

Thanks for the info. I will try to remove the prop, and give it a clean up etc. I hope to get a chance soon to get it running, so I will be removing the Carby, and giving it a clean up, so I will look out for the choke pin.
I also need to remove and clean the tank, as it is dirty inside, from years of old fuel.

Thanks for the advice. I put a little heat on the Prop, and it came off reasonably easily. I have also removed the water pump , and cleaned it. It looks to be in good condition.
Carby came apart easily. The choke plunger thing, was free, and the carb looks mostly clean, and was a simple job to clean, check, and reassemble.
I just need to get the tank a bit cleaner, and refit it.
I hope to run it in a drum in the next day or so.

Water-pump certainly doing what it should also.

The owner is looking a little bit scruffy however. 'bout time he had a shave I reckon
