Hello everyone,
I recently aquired this 1929 super ELTO lightweight outboard from Steve Green and thought I might make a quick thread on it as I progress through the restoration. I will update with pictures at every chance I get.
It is rated at 3.5hp and folds in half for easy storage, much like the 3hp johnsons and evinrudes from the 1960's which also folded.

That's interesting I've got a 1929 Evinrude Sportwin folder, neat motor! Sadly I have to sell all my motors because of illness.

Hi Phil
I don't think that ELTO made any other folding outboards in 1929 apart from the lightweight, could you post some pictures of it as a reference?
I could always be wrong, by no means am I an expert when it come to ELTOs  .

Cheers

As I said it was an Evinrude not an ELTO, the best I could do would be to email you the photos as I have never been successful in posting photos to the forum from my I-Pad, if you could email me your email address.

This is the original fuel tank - you can still see the decals from 1929 on it.

That is a cool old motor. I would love to have one, one day.
Is yours complete. I didn't see the Carby in the photos.
Good luck with the resto.

I do have the carburettor, but it is not the right one!! :P
Unfortunately it is missing a lot of the crucial parts as well.

Where do you expect to get the missing parts ? Is it a possibility that they can be sourced locally , or are they Import Only from the USA.
If you have to import heavy parts, the postage could be expensive, as It seems to have gotten a lot more costly, in recent times.

G'day Boyd,

Very cool ELTO. Don't think it will make a lot of hp without the barrels though. Do you have those, or are they also on the list of crucial missing parts?

If you're talking to Doug, you may wish to check availability of rings. Photo's in the thread are a little grainy (could also be my eye sight lol), but it looks as though the existing rings rust forming on them.

Will be watching this thread with great interest.

Regards,
Spiro

Hi Notav8 and Spiro

Parts will be provided from Doug Penn in America.
Cylinder blocks, pistons & rings and other parts are on the list of what I need from him.
Yes Spiro, the rings right now are rusty and will be replaced.
Shipping these days is quite expensive, but I am getting more accustomed to big prices, most of the time exceeding the cost of the parts  .

I am spending a lot on this because it is probably the only one in Australia, or maybe even the southern hemisphere, and there aren't that many left so getting another one running would be great.

Cheers

Sounds like a good plan. New rings and a few gaskets, are probably the only new parts you will need, other than Plugs and oil etc. Hopefully you can find Good Used parts, that are affordable.
Looking forward to seeing the finished product.
Cheers

Hi B

This is my long term project, right now I am awaiting invoice from Doug for the parts.
If possible, I will call this arvo to discuss...
