WHAT'S THAT, Ain't Broke Dont Fix it.

Post by Keith.P »

Started on my TC 102 today, not in any great rush to do this one.

It takes up a lot less space now.

Will still need the odd part, but all in all, it's in nice condition.
Why do people keep using these silly spark plug adapters.
It is not as though you cannot get the spark plugs.

Did the tank have a decal, if so which one.

That TC would have had the iconic 'Sailorman' decal.

Looks like a good 'un Keith. The exhaust clamp is upside down in the first picture, and is that an 18-14mm adaptor in the spark plug 'ole?

Yes, its a spark plug adaptor, don't like the things, rather use an 18mm plug
Don't know about the clamp, looks like where its been ground back, after being cast.

The pinchbolt of the clamp goes between the exhaust tube and drive tube, and then with the clamp the other way up, the flat area is a location for the horizontal end of the drive selector rod to hold the gearbox in 'neutral'

Thanks Rick, it sounds a little Heath Robinson, but I will try to remember that, when I come to put it all back together.

Missing a small part.
Would anyone have a picture of the latch part, so I can fabricate another.

Cleaned and rebuilt the carb, I don't think I will repaint it, I have never liked the look of them repainted.
Also took a little play out of the crank and spent some time cleaning up the crank case and other parts.
So far so good.

Still a lot more to do, I thought that the ignition was up the creek, but that was just me.
The tanks going to be a pain, looks like a green forest inside, but the outside need the most work.

Nice finish on the flywheel! :D What method do you use to refurbish?

I have quite a few 102 bits, should you need anything let me know.

I clean some parts up on the lathe first and then onto my nice big buffing wheel.
Basically just the tank and bottom end to do, had to get another prop, mine has a crack, but the one I got hold of is not for a clutch model, so I may have to put a bush in?
The flywheel cover has the best outboard logo, but it was too worn out to use, wouldn't mind putting that right.
Also was thinking about a chrome top water pipe, but don't know if that is over doing it.

Just some more pictures, as other than the tank and some bits & bobs it's just about finished.

Rick, as you pointed out in the first picture, the clamp is the wrong way around, but also the clutch lever is in the un-tapered hole, so it can not to be moved sideways and also not close enough to do anything.
The tapered hole had not been cleaned out to fit, this all done, it works very well.
Thanks for the tip, I suspect it depends on what exhaust clamp you have, to what hole you use.
