Santa Claus passed by my neighborhood (SD!!)
Or should I say Santa Paul?
I owe you a big thanks for making a dream come true!!
THANK YOU MATE!
After that I start checking my Seagull. Tried to spin the flywheel but something was stopping it. It wasn't friction, it was like there was a bolt in the bore!
After inspection I felt that that the vibe from the collision was coming from the flywheel and not from the block. I take off the flywheel nut, the plate and found that there was a small piece of iron stuck on a magnet! Take it out, put some WD40 through the spark plug hole and check for spark. It was sparking as Paul has told me and was turning free. Then I take off the gearbox and went straight to the test barrel. I did the trick with the electric water pump, add some parts aaaand

Sorry for being so dark.. I hadn't more light. The ladder is there to hold the tank from my silver century. As you will listen it fired quite good and in low rpm. I felt better compression than my other two silver century have. The water jacket looks like being free as water circulates good. I was able to unscrew bolts easily, I used my torch only to the bolt that holds the gearbox on the drive shaft housing. So this SD is in quite good condition for her age.

Excellent basis for a project, and it runs well! But is that the right magneto? Looks like a later one. What's the engine number?
Also the clutch lever is on the wrong side and is upside down, the drive shaft tube needs rotating 180 degrees.
Are you going to going to do a full restoration? Nice to see another member of the SD club.

Yes I will restore it of course! The serial is SD1823 P3 or SDL823 P3 but it seems there is an error according to the identifier on the mail site. It was my next question that about the serial. Thanks for let me know about the position of the clutch. In pictures I have seen the other type of the flywheel, this with the copper and I like it most.

Yes I am planing to chrome it. But why am I going to need a good blow torch for that? I saw that it is different from a silver century but doesn't just get off the drive shaft from the drive shaft housing? Or am I missing something?

SD drive shaft tubes were never chromed, only Zinc plated.
Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot.

Nothing like that came down my chimney aye.
Enjoy, really Cool!
I love a box with an outboard innit .

Should end up on the SD register shortly.

Yes that magneto is from a later motor, probably more than ten years later. All the short water jacket motors started life with a 'coolie hat' magneto.
Charles is quite correct, this one would have left the factory with a zinc plated drive shaft tube.

Yes there was no remains of chrome on the leg. It would be original to zink plate it but I like the idea of chrome. Would be easy to find a "coolie hat" magneto? In addition, do I have to change the back plate, coil and points or will it work just changing the flywheel?
