Cheers all, I am from the colonies (the furthest from you though, as I live in San Diego, CA) and I have a question that only a serious group of Seagull collectors can answer.
It is possible to extend the throttle lever approximately 8 feet in length so that the motor can be throttled up or down from a remote position...in this case about midship on a wooden pirouge boat. (you will have to google pirouge to see what I am trying to power.)
See, the boat is rather narrow, and to turn around to operate it would be a challenge. Remote steering is easy.
I have four seagulls now, three of which have been restored and one is waiting for me. All of mine are 40+ with the exception of a 40 Featherweight that I found in a barn and bought for about 20 pounds.
Anyway.. if anyone has ever solved this challenge, I would like to hear how.

8 feet should not be a problem.
Pop down to your local bicycle shop, and they will sell you the inner and outer cable.
Then all you need to do is solder on some ends.
The cable will need to be fairly straight, with no sharp bends.
Should work well.

I'm sure you can extend the cable to suit. Avoid any tight turns where possible. How about some pics of your boat with a seagull? We like pictures

Why not install a moped twist grip throttle on the standard length Seagull tiller arm, then use a tiller extension for the times you want to operate the boat from further forward

You can make a mould of the existing ends and then tin the inner new cable and form the ends with solder.
For the carby end I drilled a hole in timber using same diameter drill as lead nipple and did the same process.

If you buy a tandem rear brake cable (2.1 meters circa 7ft 10") it will come with the carb nipple already on the cable, leaving you only to work out what you going to use as a throttle.
Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot.

I have a 8 ft throttle cable here if you want it. All it will cost you is the postage to your address. I dont know what that would be. The postage could work out cheaper or more expensive than you purchasing one from were you are.

Collector Inspector sir, why are you having trouble with your crocs? Round here we just take their zimmer frames away. You can get £10 for 2 at the scrappy!

Zimmer frame, what we call a walker in North America. Just learned this last week from someones post showing their motor on a " Zimmer frame" The scrap yard I go to gives them to me free, they said there is not enough aluminum weight to make them worth anything, well less than a dollar. Of course that is the old style ones without the wheels.
