Nice little project
A nice little wartime (not PC to say Naval) motor, shame about the tiller and the price, still it seems to have all the right parts.
Starting instructions, remove cork before starting, or is that the choke.

Re: Nice little project
Shame about the broken tiller stub, which means the crancases are scrap Early number and have you noticed the grooves on the tank Jon?

Re: Nice little project
That one on ebay is a lot of money for a broken one.
The seller is a bit clever with camera angles and shadow.
This is the broken crankcase.
Tank is interesting if original.

It's local to me, it would be worth having for parts if it was cheaper.

Re: Nice little project
yep
i was thinking the same. definitely a "parts donor"
i'm still waiting on a reply to a question i asked a few days ago about this.
interesting tiller arrangement!
tank is probably quite early. (i've got 3 like this now! one in black, one in grey, and the other covered in rust but solid and dent free)

Re: Nice little project
I'm still keeping an eye on this one, even if its the second time around for being listed.
I've sent several messages to the seller (apparently they are a scrap yard and think this motor will be worth hundreds?)
I beg to differ!
Its definitely got broken crankcases but the rest of it is there allright.
A deal could be had here if we club together

Re: Nice little project
It's local to me as well. I'd offer £50 for it but I sense the seller thinks it's worth more.

Re: Nice little project
i think £50 is a fair price for what it is and the condition its in.
broken up for spares its got to be worth that all day!
(i could use the carb, prop and fuel cap on something else)

Re: Nice little project
i've just asked them if they can do a better price?
judging by the silence and the length of time in replying back, i'd guess that'll be a NO then?
shame because i think a few of us on here could do with a couple of bits and bobs off this one.

Re: Nice little project
Has anybody noticed the gearbox nipples on this one?
It's quite an early number, within the first 1000!
Nipples on the "wrong side".(starboard instead of port, as viewed from inside the boat)
I'm just wondering if this has anything to do with what has been called one of the "10 percenters".
It has been thought that around 10 percent of all the gearboxes produced were like this.(possibly some of the late marston/seagulls were like this also)
My SD is exactly the same, and its number is 288 (earlier still) but without a "wd stamp" on the skeg.

Re: Nice little project
SD #125 has nipples on the carb side and SD # 9242 with wd stamp has nipples on tiller side. Who is looking after SD register these days? Both are copper tops.

Re: Nice little project
HUGO
I think MR.OYSTER was originally looking after records for the SD's
Interesting, as there would seem to be some sort of "crossover" into some (not all) of the peacetime 102's as well.(i'm still looking into this)
Eventually we'll get there with all of this?

Re: Nice little project
Let me shed some light regarding the seller mind.
Actually she is a lady and she is told that it worths so much money. Not willing to lower the price either. So...
Don't worry, I was a gentleman messaging her.
