Well expensive, interesting that it has the non spring SD type prop.

Must be a transition motor I guess.

Could the tank be the correct one?

It's a brass early post war one, SDP, or early D, C or AC/AD. correct carb, but cylinder looks very corroded. Magneto looks ok.

Trying it on at that price. Is there no number? Can't see. could this be a bitsa, with SD cases built from bits with a correct bottom casting and cylinder etc? I really hope nobody from here pays £400 for that.

I paid £150 for an ON last summer in an open auction. Get real folks.

Re the carb trumpet: I note the saw cut again closet to the mouth.. is this original? I presume it was to provide some method of chocking?
Note the flywheel nut is heavily flattened indicating some one has had a go at removing the flywheel.

Looks like it has been cut with a hack saw, thread looks a bit knackered as well.

Sorry didn't see that saw cut, that is a war time trumpet, the pre war one narrows down after the thread.

By the time that one has been bought collected and restored then you are going to be in for at least £950....

buying and collection - £400+
Magneto rebuild parts - £100
Tank build from parts - £200+
chroming leg and exhaust - £100
transom bracket - £75? If you can find one that is..
Skeg weld repair -£25+
misc parts HT lead, decal, throttle cable, paint etc. - £50

we really need to stop this ridiculous run of selling prices. To me that is a £100 engine. Beyond that you are just throwing money away. Daft thing is it may be post the Marston era, the switchover from Marston to British Seagull does seem a little fluid.

If we enthusiasts refuse to pay such prices then the whole bubble could burst and we can get on with enjoying our interest in these engines. The Swordfish sold recently for £13 is a far more interesting engine!

prices are going up because people are prepared to pay. I hope the individual who paid over £600 for a OP is cursing now. Because that was ridiculous in the extreme. What's that going to owe him by the time it is fully restored? think about it.

£190 starting price for a clutched 40 plus is a non starter. reduce it to 0.99 and put a £125 reserve and that one will go, as that model is a nice one to own.

People are seeing $ and trying it on. If buyers say NO then we will get reality back. remember a lot of people selling on eBay are not really enthusiasts they are doing it to make a few bob on the side, we generally know who they are.

enthusiasts swap and sell amongst themselves at "between enthusiasts" prices.
