Seagull outboard with forward/neutral/reverse

Post by Seagull1975 »

I saw a YouTube video with a seagull century that had forward/neutral and reverse. Is this a special version of the seagull outboard or would it be something someone made themselves?

It's probably a model 90, have a look on the main pages there might be something in the FAQs about changing jets & a description of the Model 90.
Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot.

The FNR basically is still a dog clutch like other seagulls but there are two crown wheels, which the dog clutch can engage either of. As they rotate in opposite directions you can drive the prop either way. Quite a neat arrangement. I believe the actual long rod can be prone to sticking if not maintained for long periods.

Yeah, had the same problem with my Model 75. The stainless rod corrodes itself to the gearbox housing.

I freed it up by placing it over a gas stove, then plunging it into a bucket of water. Repeat till rod is free.
