I've been offered a Seagull 170 , not in perfect condition by any means , it runs but has drive issues . Not too worried about that but have been asked to 'make an offer ' any thoughts ?
cheers

Re: Seagull 170
The conrods go in these making them scrap, i have a 160 inboard (same powerhead) that has a worn conrod. If they are ran with wear in the big end then the conrods are prone to shattering. Charles can tell you more on this if he wants. Worth a shot for the right price though.
I have a gearbox here if you need one for it.

You need a reasonable amount of mechanical ability to get & keep one going.
Explain "drive issues" the question is a bit vague.
They are prone to con rod & inner exhaust & gear selector shaft seal problems, all of which are no longer available.

I was told its running and the drive spring is fine but he thinks the square on the drive shaft might be ' rounded ' I just didn't want to make a too low offer and offend the guy !

So it might be a £30 problem but it might be 10 times that much, so could be beyond economic repair, offer him what it's worth to you, if he gets offended then he can keep it.

If this was the case i would say it would kind of turn the prop. Sounds like a gearbox problem.cookie1 wrote: but he thinks the square on the drive shaft might be ' rounded '
