Model 55 rubber boot!

Post by Arbian »

Anybody got a rubber hose that goes from carb to flywheel housing on the late 40 series motors? I tried John at SOS but he didn't have one.

Could a 2 part mould made and pour a silicone rubber one?
it would be doable but a lot of work.

I'm sure with a bit of searching for suitable material one of these could be made?

I had wondered if I could find soft plastic / rubber pipe of the requisite diameter if it could be soften in hot water and reformed to shape. Would need to be spread at carb end though as this is bigger than spigot onto flywheel cover.

None of the quick Seagull racers run their engines with these in place, the restricted air flow seems to slightly restrict maximum power/speed!

If you can live with the intake noise there doesn't seem much point.

I imagine the Normal intake is perfectly ok with some sort of rubber blank on the hole that is left.

Just realised that a QB type could be bodged to fit by extending it in the mid section. Might look a bit crappy but would do the trick!

There are 4 different versions of these, QB ones are I think longer, but the angle is different, what are you trying to achieve & why?
It would be a shame to destroy a good one, as they are all made from unobtainium!

I am trying to achieve the same thing that BS designed it for ... to make a bit less racket! I think there are only 3 types, 40 series, 100 series and QB. The QB ones (CBN QB 001) are the same angle as the 40 series because the FW housing spigot on the QB is vertical as opposed to horizontal on the 40's which counters the port / starboard carb fitting difference between the. QB has shorter 'boot' than 40 though.
