Post by arfon »

Does anyone (in the US) have a DEFECTIVE Silver Century cylinder block that they would let go for cheap?

Also looking for a DEFECTIVE steel long range tank.

I just have to ask, what do you want it for?

My son has been doing lost foam casting. And I've been doing 3d modeling. I wanted to see if he could cast a block and/or a tank.

So a bad one that I can take measurement off of is what I'm looking for.

Im a little far away (that and I don't have a bad block)
That would be a very interesting project. Please keep us posted and put up some pics... very keen to see how it turns out.

You didn't pick an easy one first.

Cast iron or aluminium?

Look anywhere there is salt water, Seagull cast iron cylinders won't take a lot of not flushing after salty use, & often first show signs of distress by cracking around the inside of the exhaust port.
This would give you a almost perfect candidate for the outer size & shape & could then be sectioned to model the water jacket & port shapes locations & dimensions.

Your very brave!

Manganese bronze would be a close second to casting the block in iron. You shouldn't even have to sleeve the bore.

Arfon,

Do you have a strict timeline? I have one you can have. My brother's in Maryland and is visiting late June. He can bring it back & ship to you, if that works?
