102 Prop

Post by fleetingcontact »

I'd really like just about any sort of 102 prop apart from the later four-bladed one often seen on Ebay...any offers?

So you would like a five blade prop then, :P
or what you are saying is you would like anything other then a modern hydrofan propeller.
I think that leaves you with just two options, a weed free style or a bow tie prop,
a swept back prop will not fit your motor.
A bow tie on Ebay, not all that good though.

Hi KIeth

Thanks for the terminology update... :P

Not a three-blade cloverleaf type? And what on Earth is a feed-free syle prop? Got any pics anyone?

I guess I'll have to take your word for it that a swept-back type won't fit but it seems to me (a lowly, ignorant, sinner) that the differences between my gearbox and the earlier ones are not much. Propshaft diameter?

Do you mean bow-tie props don't come up much on Ebay?

Lastly, is the five-blade type any more efficient than the four blade hydrofan? (I would have thought so).

Cheers - Martin.

The out the back exhaust will take most props, but mainly the swept back prop.
The later sub ejector exhaust will not take an early prop like the swept back, but will takes most others, weed free props and the bow tie.

Hydrofans are reckoned to be the better prop, but I don't like them.
A bow tie prop is available on Ebay at the moment, I don't think much of it though.

Hi Kieth

You are of course right about the sub-ejector exhaust issue.

So would a three-blade prop described as a 'chopper' prop fit? And if so is it considered to be more efficient than a bow-tie prop please?

Also, are there any other options apart from:

Bow-Tie
Hydrofan (four-blade)
Hydrofan (five blade)

Cheers mate.

To be honest, as far as efficiency, I can not really answer that question, I have one 102 with a hydrofan, I don't collect seagulls after they changed to the wipac ignition, around the late 50's, so I don't have much interest in the later stuff.
The chopper or meat clever prop will fit, plus the weed free and hydro's.
The five blade will fit, but your motor will not push it, so that's out.
The most efficient prop are reckoned to be the Hydro's and like yourself, I don't like the look of them either, even the bow ties, your options are limited.
I do keep the odd prop.
But I never sell anything.

Kieth

Thanks for the info.

I've been offered a 3-blade at a price I can't ignore! So at least there will be a choice.

Regards - Martin.
