Re: V-strut for Skeletal bracket
That's not an easy sand cast, can someone post pics from all sides so Nudge can pass comment after he's got a mental picture of what we're talking about.
That's almost a couple of hours draftsman time on the STL drawing
I'd guess a one piece casting then, remove all flashing, clean up with angle grinder, drill for the threads, cap cut off, holes tapped & drilled for clearance, assembled, the drive shaft tube hole drilled out to 1 1/8", then the parting line skimmed on the cap so it will lock up, then scotch-brite up to almost polished level of finish.
Originals are sand cast & the hook slots looked machined not cast.
We are not talking a quick easy job here!

Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot.
Re: V-strut for Skeletal bracket
I'd like to have one of these castings in brass/bronze too, if some are being made Just the bare casting as I can machine and polish it myself
I was also going to mention to Nudge that I have several old gearbox castings that are no use to me. Would they be any use as casting material? I would have to clean them up, as they are hidden away at the bottom of a box.

Re: V-strut for Skeletal bracket
That's great Jason. Many thanks. I'll send an email when i get up in the morning. Also I can shoot that over to Nudge if he decides the brass option is doable.
Drilling 1 1/8"" centre hole is out of my reach but drill/tap, slicing cap and fettling is within my capabilities.
Thought l recognised the balcony and after market coolie lid Adrian .
Has anyone found the finish on the brass std later brackets to be appalling?

It's no better or worse than the standard aluminium ones.Has anyone found the finish on the brass std later brackets to be appalling?
Re: V-strut for Skeletal bracket
Mine is definately worse. Photo probably doesn't show finish.
Re: V-strut for Skeletal bracket
Well... It won't be the cheapest part to get made!
By the time we have a good part to use as the pattern (be it an orignal or a 3d printed part) there will be a cost to get the drawing done for the STL file OR the cost of posting a part. A part with a tilt hook missing will be ok to use as the pattern, I can 3d print a new part and add it (as long as some one can tell me the size it should be)
The cost of doing the casting itself is another thing altogether, I think I know how I would mould it up, but untill I have one in my hands to have a good look at....
@ Keith.P, Would you be so kind and weigh your bronze bracket for me please? Once we know how heavy it is then we can get a very rough idea of what it might cost.
If we do this how many items are we looking at? The reason I ask this, it how the pattern work will be set up and the cost per item.

"THE KING OF BLING"!
Is it better to over think, than not think at all?

Re: V-strut for Skeletal bracket
Put me down for two please Chris. Jason's ali one is coming to me via London to you and then to me at my cost starting its global odyssey in April if that is acceptable. An actual one should cut out drafting and 3d printing. Add a bit of profit to yourself in the final prices please.
