Silver Century in original crate?

Post by andrew »

This one had been on eBay many times recently and hasn’t sold yet.

Wondering if anyone has an opinion on it, price aside? Is this original crate? Any thoughts on condition? Admittedly hard to tell much from the photos, but there many are keen/educated eyes on SOS!

Thanks all

Hi Andrew

I would say that the crate is probably from the factory. It is cheap but suitable for purpose.

I am surprised that it still survives till now as it is, while being of the same concept to earlier 50s crates, very flimsy.

The older crates were built heavier and had metal fittings instead of nails.

I wonder when the cardboard boxes started.......

They had slotted handles by 1960. SD ones were rope.
