It's about time you pulled something, other than a muscle.

Thanks for the the lapping point and the ball bearing point - brilliant.
2 questions
1 where should the piston be when you hit the end of the crankshaft, to minimise the results of shock through the shaft and it's attachments?

2 how do I get the woodruff key off - I thought they should be square or rectangular (Kempe 1970) but this looks potentially trapezoidal....

A photo should be attached, but it does not seem to be coming up here...and yes I know the ends of the screws are painted - they were there for the painting, and I have yet to replace them

I just tap woodruff key out with screwdriver. They say piston should be bdc but l cant understand why as there is a gap between the counter balances so crank can still warp.

Thanks - I tried tapping but seems to be stuck - will try some plus gas and try again - I don't want to hit too hard and misshape or scratch something ! Thanks for the bottom dead centre - that's what I don't get - there is always some float?!

I use a pair of wire nips and lever against the crankshaft

Done it - sorted by plus gas and vice grips will put in new key
Should this just be inserted dry, like the flywheel? It looks like it was difficult because of dried grease
