Featherweight mounting bracket...............

Post by bigoink »

For some time now i have noticed a 'clunk' comming from the mounting bracket of one my Featherweights . Close investigation revealed the lug on the bronze bracket (tiller side ) had worn slightly oval. Every push/ pull of the tiller handle would result in a certain amount of backlash being taken up before anything actually moved. A bit like a knackered track rod end. Ive checked my other featherweights and it appears they are all going the same way to a greater or lesser extent. Due to the complexities of a proper repair i have instead utilized the bracket off one of my silver centurys and transferred the featherweight into that . The result is far better lateral stability than the original and less vibration. The original bracket will be mended at some convenient point in time .....but left on the shelf until i part company with the motor..........ie. maybe never !
