Re: Made another boat.
Mark then you have to factor in the volume of the hull when full submersed & the fuel tank & the motor,
So the displacement volume of the above items in litres, minus total weight in kilos, without the extra bouyancy it wasn't far off floating.
You'd be surprised what will float, full cans of beer for one, sorry I forgot you lot can't remember seeing a full can, you have only seen empties!

Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot.

Re: Made another boat.
Built another boat today, about 12 foot, similar to tinnys of that length.
Wanted it to be able to carry the whole family and still fit on the roof of my van.
Wickes are selling some quite nice Chinese ply at the moment, and not expensive.
For this one I decided to use Epoxy rather than Polyester, it is taking along time to cure even with fast hardener.
I hope the additional expense is worth it, kids boat built with Polyester is still going strong.

I love the long evenings, now filleted and taped inside and out.
still a bit flexible, i hope the seats will make it more rigid.
I am enjoying using epoxy, but it is so slow.

Re: Made another boat.
Progress is a little slow as the weather has been a little wet.
Still light, a few more bits of wood to add but happy so far.
Not that bad for a 12 foot boat.
Epoxy glass sheathed inside and out.

Re: Made another boat.
All done, ready for holiday.
Tested on river yesterday, gets up on the plane with a Honda 2HP.
Big enough for 4 people, and light enough to be car top-able.
Now need to build the new race engine.

Oh, she's a beauty! And incredibly light; how thick is the plywood? 1/4"?

Yes mostly 1/4", but some 3/8" for some bits.
I will weigh it and see how heavy it is, now it is painted.

That looks very nice H-A. You did a great job on it, roughly how many hours do you estimate ?

Re: Made another boat.
Well it does what I wanted, fits on top of van, big enough for 4, goes well on low power.
Phil I will take some pattern of the chines for you.
It goes well with a 3.3hp, have yet to try it with a Seagull.

Will get the GPS out, and try with a century.

I would say it is worth having a go at making one, it performs well with low power.
Not sure how much the postage to Canada will be.
