Distorted crankcases, could be repaired?

Post by Stelios_Rjk »

Hi guys,

I have 2-3 pairs of crankcases that are distorted. In case I fit a good crankshaft and try to tight the bolts it won't turn.
And with the bolts loose I see a gap remaining open in a region. If I try to close the gap, the crankshaft gets stiff.

So I am wondering, is there a method to cure the cases?

How about a steel plate mark up the holes and drill them out then put nuts and bolts through crankcase and plate then tighten up surely that should work worth a try,,,,,

Pop a reamer through the bearings when it is assembled.

I use a worn 5/8 long one to start, followed up by a new long 5/8 reamer.

If you need to match two odd halves - the reamer is usually a must - or for new bearings.
I'm amazed how cheap engineering reamer are.

Yes I have a 5/8 adjustable reamer but it's a bit short and I am also missing a lathe to do my tricks. But luckily enough I have a friend with lathe that could help.
