OK.....

It was very tight and obviously my lube of main bushes when assembled dried out.

Getting fuel to the spark proved an issue that an electric drill solved. Hand under storm cowl and swearing.

BP will post links to the getting it running and all will be clear then.

All very nice at the end. Low idle and hand would not stop it. Block cool as a VB on Ice. Wet meet in 3 months....an hour on a transom and good again for 60+..........No one took a vid of BP blowing the exhaust off his 100. It was classic aye.

Very hot and very Humid......I may look somewhat distressed........yes knocked me around a tad.

There is one in a couple of months in NSW.

From Mark:

"We are looking at holding the Seagull Nationals for 2016 at Nelligen, on the Clyde River,near Batemans Bay in NSW. Van park on the river, camping sites, cabins etc, boat access, pub across the road, shops close by etc etc. Dates we are looking at are 5-6 March 2016. That's three weeks before Easter next year, so should give enough of a break between the two if you already have plans for Easter.

An update AC17964.

I have a nice exhaust tube on the way. Not shiny brew but something to compliment nicely.

They are hard to find original and presentable aye!

Minimal wear and tear with minimal marks from use. I was always a bit unhappy with the original one due to the burning historically but I was not willing to make it new and chromed as it would not be right for the Old Dear.

I will now have the original one to de-chrome for something else 8)

I am thinking doing another tank black with decal...............17964 can then be of many bling aye?

OH Yeh.............Starts 1st pull now the juices have done their work.

Still jumping into gear....I guess an innate desire for the Old Man to just go! Well maybe more of an issue with me adjusting a few tensions aye.

I will need a transom to sort that out......soon on the River.

Tank came along in box of bits a few months ago. In the box is a nice tank with no dents or other issues.

There were two flywheels dated 1950 and 1951 as well.

Now..........how about I just clean the tank up, preserving what I can along the way.......decal etc which is actually pretty cool except for one bit.

I think it may well do aye!

I will keep it subdued so 17964 has cred of course.

Just curious to know how big the "ears" are on the fuel cap? This is something i'm looking at more and more of late with the ally caps for dating purposes. I'm trying to determine whether big ears are early and smaller ears are later, or the other way around!! (unless of course its a complete hotchpotch of mixed up parts from all years)

What does your gut instinct tell you with flywheels!

Preservation (rather than full on bling and shiny) is more the way i like to go these days with my seagulls. Keeps 'em looking honest.
H-A might be the better person to ask with how to preserve the tank.

With the jumping into gear, i've found that the adjustment on the clutch rod is quite critical on some 102's. They seem to like it on the tight side :shock: rather than loose. It helps too if the exhaust clamp has the little "FLAT" section for the rod to rest against. Without this "flat" the rod tends to slip off it's perch and drop down leading to an instant jump into gear! Annoying, but it does happen. Tension on the clutch lever can also be of benefit here. Too loose and it might not hold in neutral, too tight and the lever might not have the full range of movement required to engage and disengage the clutch.
Trial and error with some of it.

Isn't that why they were fitted with a spring Thackery washer just like the tiller arm, so that the top end of the clutch rod would lock over the notch on the top of the exhaust clamp & be held there, & when you want to put it in gear, move the clutch lever sideways & lift.

They work perfectly when all the right components are fitted correctly.

Charles is right. Assemble the right parts and you will find that Seagull had actually thought that issue through.

EXACTLY right, but i've still seen plenty of people get it wrong, with the end result being jumping into gear when you dont want it to!

My point was when adjusting the clutch rod most of my 102's seem to like being on the tighter side rather than the sloppier side of adjustment.
Ideally (as you pointed out Chas.) the idea behind the thackery washer is to allow the clutch lever to move side to side as well as through an arc.

This is where things can get slightly confusing. NOT ALL 102's have a thackery washer on the tiller. Be careful here. (different crackcases)
Later models, as is the case with just about all other models made after the mid 50's will have a thackery washer on the tiller, and with those motors that have a clutch mechanism there should also be a thackery washer on the clutch lever assembly.

A "Thackery" well bugger me what a great name.

My thack is good as what length and thackeryness/rebound seems logical ............slight tightening only. The jumping into gear was more by others not hooking the rod end onto the exhaust ring with authority actually.

Every man and his spanner wanted a go aye.

If you look back Jon, you will see that the original exhaust tube was touched up with silver paint because of the hot spot.

That was OK but I found a tube in better condition at a reasonable price.......still old and matching "Patina Katina"......I remember Her like my first time...
