Little Horse from the states. Ebay took a punt.

Damaged sheave in post but got another from the states last week.

New spring for water pump and a general check over. Very Happy.

The Vids: The HT lead leaks everywhere.......I have deleted that video when it got me and the Old Nokia was nearly in the tub. And of course it is 76 years old so do not listen to me in my post shock.

Dinky little thing, broken rope pull, seen that one or twice that before, not so bad if it's separate form the flywheel.

Cool old Outboard, and looks to be in really nice original condition. Getting hard to find a good one these days.

Woke up early and with coffee in hand went outside and gave an affectionate twist of the flywheel.

STIFF?

Plug out and water. Internal leak bugger!

I was going to just put off pulling the wee horse down until Xmas holiday and new year............glad I noticed now as it would be a mess inside if I had not noticed.

Water in combustion chamber and the crankcase.

The thing is a fresh water motor so cool!

The only place that water can get in would be from the lower bush assy. Correct as the gasket has stuffed up.

Now to hand make all the gaskets. I used to be very good at doing that a long time ago.........

One more thang in that when you have an Old Horse serviced and running..........do not put off the basic check of......

Over all of this time.....76 years and other owners...........tension is required aye.

My 59 Evinrude 5.5 had that problem, the previous owner rebuilt the motor and did a full restoration, a very good job I might add, He only run it twice before the engine started to rattle.
I got it from him with a load of spares, cheap.
On inspection I found the big end bolts were very loose, as the tabs hadn't been bent over, so it was only a matter of time.
I replaced the crank and con rods, it runs well and is a very nice motor now.

Lucky it has been a fresh water engine, otherwise it would probably be badly corroded .
