When I put it all back together I dIdn't connect the throttle cable correctly so the valve piston was just lying in the chamber body
I bet it starts tomorrow
I will be watching for your next post, lets just hope it's good news, as it's been a long time coming.
It happens to us all, I took out the FVP and copper top SD today, the FVP ran perfectly, as it always has, but the SD wouldn't start, not a problem with the motor itself, just the operator. It's top heavy with a long shaft on an inflatable, never again, it will have to go, I have never liked long shaft motors.
Without resorting to eazystart or WD40 a few pulls and it fired, I didn't run it for more than a few seconds as I don't have time today
Thanks everyone you are amazing
Downloading it off my phone right now, it will be up here shortly
It starts first time runs perfectly, even stops when I turn the throttle down, I also notice just how quiet it is.
Just replacing the gear oil then going to see how it runs with the prop attached, a special thank you to Tam and Jon for the parts and thanks to everyone for all the advice and encouragement
chuffed to bits and a whole 2 months ahead of schedule
This is the first running, it isn't pumping water but a few seconds later the water flowed just fine
another video to come, it ran until the fuel ran out and for this test I put an 8/1 mix to make sure it got plenty to lubricate the piston
Still deciding what to do next, I am thinking it might be an idea to upgrade this one,
if I keep an eye out for a better exhaust and drive tubes,
I should get on to John and order a new throttle cable, maybe have a go at repainting the tank, I see I can get little forty transfers from John
maybe repaint the tiller as well

If anybody needs any 40 parts, I have the gearbox (apparently still working), 2 x 4 blade hydro fan props, upper end (minus drive shaft I think), tank (no tap), carb, throttle, head (no HT lead so unsure if coil is there and not knowing how to get a 40 Minus apart I am not going at it and possibly wrecking it). I am at the Norfolk Lincolnshire border area, I got what I wanted off of it (prop spring), so open to offers!
If you repaint the tank, don't make it too shiny and it will look the part.
Or just a basic refurbish, with the right era tank cap, HT lead and plug cap.

I did wonder about the tank cap, which one should it have? The HT lead and plug cap were replaced while I was working to get it going, I still have the old ones and the 8 Com sparkplug, I will see it runs with those refitted, I know I can get a new throttle cable to replace the worn one but the more I look at the dents scrapes and dings the more I like that it shows it's age.
