Reverse Gearbox

Post by Steven »

There's one on flea bay at the moment. It is missing the bevel pinion and has a nasty coat of blue paint. Ebay number is 310109370142 - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0109370142

The blue is a standard 170 colour early in their production
Say's it's missing the bevel pinion, often a real pig to extract, so unlikley, probably means a crown wheel, but with that, the drive spring , spring carrier & prop, more than £100 to rebuild unless you have the parts.

As all the powerheads that take the FNR box require different props if might well pay you to wait for a dead complete motor to turn up & save yourself from having to buy the complete transom bracket as well, just so you can use reverse!

Having read other posts on Rotogulls once cleaned up a liberal coat of copper grease has been advised to stop small particles of sand grit and salt water jamming up as it turns. Are you using it on a 40+?

Apologies for my ignorance on model 170 colours (and in general!). There is one Crownwheel for the reverse gearbox also for sale for £65 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/British-Seagull-o ... 240%3A1318
Affirms the suggestion to hold out for a complete one!

That is about the list price for a new one.

But John probably has a new one in stock that you should be able to purchase for much less than that, that will come with a warranty.

One gets the impression that this seller is trying make the very most of his items.

After seeing items like this I tend not to ever look at this type of vendors items again unless they're exceptional.
