Anyone on here breaking a kingfisher box that might be able to donate parts for this one?
John might have some spares?
Other than that try your luck on the wanted section perhaps.
These gearboxes do come up for sale from time to time. Pricey but worth having a good one to start with.

I had thought of buying a "new" gearbox, but with the pinion damaged, I think I will still have the same problem !

Seems as though you have three problems
1 Damaged pinion gear
2 Stripped thread on the selector rod (easy to make)
3 Not engaging in forward.
I would see if you can rectify no. 3 first and then worry about 1 & 2. Sounds like something annoyingly simple.
I wonder if/which other boxes have the same bevel drive part no. GBX100 035?

Only the 3.1 : 1 boxes, 12 teeth to 37, that's the 170, Osprey & some Kingfishers, oh & the 110, SD110 & the SD160.

Completely out of my bailiwick but can the hardened teeth be welded and remachined?

Not easily, it might well be cheaper to buy a new pinion, £57.22 & new seals & the pinion thrust washers as well as the seals & spacers for the lower selector rod & a new one of those.
Way more than the cost of a used box.

Might be cheaper to buy an engine on E Bay or whatever and sell my one for parts !

Keep them both, then you can pick and choose the very best parts from the pair to make a really good motor that might last another 20 years.
There's a second hand box on ebay right now that's been advertised for the last couple of months. Reasonable price really for what it is.
I'd still try and salvage your original motor provided the powerhead and related components are still in serviceable condition.

Replace the box with a basic century one and eventually another fnr box will turn up. Plenty of rusted out silver centuries out there for next to nothing. You can sell off the other bits and make a profit.
